Description
As I promised to some of the people here, I'm releasing the first tutorial here. This is the tutorial for how to do soft cell shading on Photoshop, based on my experience.
The version of Photoshop used in the tutorial is 6. If you use later versions, names of tools/modes and/or allocation of shortcut keys might be different.
I'm working on Windows, so if you use Mac please change these notations as: Ctrl to Command, Alt to Option.
I just hope it helps you.

Great tut! However, when softening the lines, you do paint the lines darker where dark is and vice versa for when the area is light right? Just making sure.

Thank you so much for taking the time to put all of this down! After reading this I'm impatient to start coloring digitally again! With the grouping of layers and the masking I feel that maybe this time around I won't get lost in the dodge/burn-tool-trap and end up with sixty layers of shades/highlights at various opacity and layer modes where I have no idea which one is which...
Also, the softening of lines is something I haven't really noticed when looking at pictures and therefore haven't remembered to do myself, but here you really showed me how doing something so simple can improve a work so much! Thankyou thankyou thankyou <3

I do lineart on a PC as well. Well, I don't distinguish lineart from painting, I do both simultaneously. But I hope my lineart tut will help you too.
