After months of being made to grow your hair long and having it dyed platinum blonde you longed for a change. While looking like the stereotypical girly girl was a thrill at first you were ready to take ownership of your new lifestyle.

You walked into the salon. The hairdresser was surprised to see you without the friend who always came and gave the instructions on what would be done with your hair.

You show him a picture on your phone. He gasps and asks if youâ€™re sure. You nod and take a seat in the chair. He starts working his magic with the cut, blonde hair falling all over your cape before he wraps your hair in foils.

When heâ€™s finished, he spins you around to reveal the bright fire red bob. You run your fingers through it and smile with delight. You feel a new energy and confidence as you shake your short hair around and fuss with your bangs. You take out a red lipstick that matches your new colour.

You thank the hairdresser and leave. As youâ€™re walking towards your friendâ€™s house to show her your new look, you catch a glimpse of your reflection in a car window. You start to get nervous. You havenâ€™t broken the rules per se, you still look like a girl, but as you walk up the stairs to her apartment you start to fear how she'll react.
