‘Come on now, don’t look so surprised’.

You stared at yourself in the mirror, a little in shock as you looked at your freshly pierced ears and the large silver hoops now hanging down.

Without telling your friend, who had spent months transforming you into a stereotypical girly girl, that morning you’d walked into a salon and had your waist length platinum blonde locks chopped off into a fiery red bob. As promised, after you showed her your new look, your friend had taken you to the mall to update your clothes and makeup after your recent hairstyle change but she’d made some unexpected stops.

‘You didn’t think I’d let you fully take control of your look, did you? I know I’d said that piercing your ears was a little mean and I wouldn’t do it, but that was when you had gorgeous long hair that covered them. Now they’re so on display we can’t have you walking around without some accessories.’

She turned your face side to side, admiring the new piercings.

‘This is just a little reminder to not do anything without my permission again. See, we can both go back on our promises.’ She said, giving the bottom of your blunt bob a sharp tug.

At first you thought she liked the new look, but it was starting to become clearer you shouldn’t have made such a change behind her back.

She stood in front of you and examined your face.

‘Something is wrong… it’s the eyebrows. They’re too big. I think some pencil thin ones will suit you better.’ She grabbed a razor from the table. ‘Don’t worry, I’ll teach you how to draw them on every day.’

She placed the razor next to your right eyebrow before she noticed the look of panic in your eyes. ‘What? You were sick of being girly. You wanted an edgy look, right? Then this is what you get. Now hold still.’ She laughed as she pushed the razor across your brow.
