Description
i made this model for a international 3d competition, sponsored by Boxx workstations, (hence the name).the objective of the competition was to create a mining dorid, that is a self guided robot that has 3 operating modes, mine, flight and attack mode.
this model was done in 3d max, and the textures were done in photoshop.
i have spent allot of time and though in to this piece, and over all i like it very much ,
i planned this droid so that it will be a mass production, very crude, massive, like a catapillar, that will have no problem drilling ,and mining in the harshest enviorments, even his head and sensors were planned to take a beating and still function.
hope you guys like it

I'm sure you know this, but I see something that is bothering me. The model in the third quadrent labled one is backwards, and I think it does something to the feel for people paying attention to the detail.
But I like it none the less, good job.

I don't envy you.
If the detail and brilliance of this project were any measure of the time you spent on it, you must be suffering a major case of carpal tunnel syndrome. lol. And a deadly bout of radiation poisoning from being in front of the monitor for extended periods of time. o_o
Fabulous work. I can't tear my eyes away from this. It's absolutely amazing.

the brief for the competition requierd it to have defense mechanisems..
according to the story , it mines valuble materials in hostile enviroment and flyes it over to the mother ship..
(i know it sounds dorky.. )

superb model and texturing!
Is it boned and/or animated???
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
gizmoaseth In reply to 4lmnts [2005-10-18 15:56:06 +0000 UTC]
mmmm. yes its boned and animated, even with controllers that will make it easier to move..
one day , i hope to put up an animation for this baby ..
the problem is .. it has too much polygons.. and its getting really hard for my computer... after 2 tryouts ,thats took 2 nights each and crashed at the end.. i gave up .. ..
maybe my next computer will be able to pull it off..
thanks ..

Wonderful details and the colours and textures are nice too. You have clearly thought this through in great detail to create something that seems so efficient and versatile. The sort of head on top with the light gives it a sort of human characteristic along with the arms. It still looks tough though which is great and the sort of thing I think you wanted to convey.
