"I-I'm sorry. Please, if you'll excu-" Trying to get by, Cobalt knocks into her physically, causing her scroll to fall from her combat skirt. Frantically, the Mistral student quickly picks up the thankfully undamaged scroll to hand it back to her. "I am SO sorry!" What Weiss would not have noticed was the slight of hand as Cobalt handed her an identical scroll to her own, while the original rested tucked away in his large sleeve.

Weiss took a moment to shake the cobwebs from the bump before she gave the individual a glare. Letting out a sigh she picked up what she believed to be her scroll and got back to her feet.

"Whatever. Just...don't do it again." Weiss advised before she put the scroll away and would begin to walk past the guy, unaware of what had just happened or what she really had with her now.

"I won't, I promise!" Giving her a wide berth to walk past him, Cobalt continued on his way shortly before turning to the corner. Out of sight, the blue haired young man pulled Weiss' scroll from one of the pockets hidden in his sleeve. He then drew his own stone gray scroll out and activated a call.

"Sir, I made the swap. Activate the data scan." Holding the two open scrolls next to each other, Co alt watched Weiss' screen flicker and glitch as a progress bar filled on his screen. When the job was done, the bar was replaced by a stylized W.

"There we are. Now the duplicate will be a perfect replica of her personal scroll, barring our inclusion. Do you have the trigger" "Yes, sir." Flicking his wrist. The original scroll was returned to its pocket and replaced by a small black cylinder embroidered with gold patterns. Cobalt knew about Dr. Watts' personal tastes, but even he thought this was a bit much.

"Good. Continue to shadow Ms. Schnee and mark how often she uses her scroll's audio or video functions. I estimate that six collective hours of exposure to the subliminals will ready her for the main program. Remember, she will need to have the scroll in video format to get the full effect."

"Understood. I will contact you when she is successfully compromised." Hanging up, Cobalt turned back around the con or to tail Weiss from a safe distance, fingers at the ready in his sleeve to start his timer if she took a call.

Weiss would head to one of the training areas she would take a breath and pull out her rapier before she began to practice some combat strikes and parries. Weiss would focus not to use her semblance during this session, working on pure technique. Offensive and defensive moves with a mix of evasion. Weiss had to contact the others once this was done, and had some studying to do, but first and foremost Weiss had to keep up her routine sessions.

"Can't allow myself to get sloppy." Weiss would think to herself as she kept at it.

Training, what's more, it seemed like the training would take some time. Cobalt could be patient, but days of this did not look particularly appealing. As if some force were answering an unspoken prayer, the scroll in Cobalt's sleeve rang.

Thankful that he was in another room and unheard, Cobalt quickly set Weiss' phone to vibrate. A "Ruby" was plastered over the scree. This presented an unforseen advantage. With both phones made identicsl, Cobalt could see when Weiss used the subliminal scroll and better catalog her exposure.

Weiss paused for a moment when she noticed her scroll begin to...vibrate? Odd, she didn't recall setting it to vibrate. None the less she went over to the scroll and examined it, seeing it was Ruby trying to contact her. Weiss opened the scroll.

"Hey Ruby, what's up." Weiss said as she and Ruby began to converse over the scroll.

Taxima In reply to godjacob [2017-09-09 13:00:16 +0000 UTC]

Cobalt watched his timer as the conversation went on through the scroll. By his estimate, Weiss will have absorbed twenty minutes worth of subliminals. It was going to take some time. Patience, he reminded himself. Odds are she would show more scroll activity later down the line. Classes and homework might necessitate online studying, her friends might get more chatty like this Ruby girl. If he figured out her daily routine, he could calculate the perfect time to trigger the brainwashing software. He just needed to do as he always did. If he controlled himself, he would have what he was hired for.

Weiss would turn off her scroll and push it in her pocket before she began to move again, seemed like she was going back to her dorm for something concerning Ruby. Either way Colbalt would see Weiss walk inside her dorm and shut the door behind her.

Taxima In reply to godjacob [2017-09-09 18:36:07 +0000 UTC]

In her room. Great. And according to her phone, the device had been turned off. He needed to see inside. He could play exchange student, but they had their own wing for dorm rooms. He had to move to avoid suspicion. His answer came in a rather unlikely place as he was scaling the tree growing in front of the dorm building. From his guess, the branches grew near her window. If nothing else, if caught he'd simply be accused of being a pervert. Preferable to what was actually happening, of course.

When he got to his vantage point, a little higher than the branch next to the window so he could see down into the room better, Cobalt spotted Weiss in the room. The scroll had been set on the desk. There was his opportunity. Once Weiss began speaking with the Ruby girl, Cobalt would use Weiss' scroll to turn on the subliminal phone in the room. A quick search lead him to a music library, from which he chose a low volume instrumental song to play as background noise for the two's conversation. The Ruby would be exposed to the subliminals, but that was trivial unless she received the six hours of exposure and the brainwashing software.

"Um, Ruby. Are you playing music?" Weiss asked, having caught the slight sounds of low level music. Most people wouldn't have even noticed, but Weiss normally worked in silence and only expected to hear Ruby's voice.

"Music?" Ruby asked, taking a moment to shut up and listen. Sure enough, the subtle sound was heard to her as well.

"I hear it, though I didn't play it. Sounds nice though." Ruby said as Weiss nodded.

"Indeed, but this is so strange. I didn't play it, and if you didn't then who did?" Weiss would ask as Ruby gave a shrug.

Taxima In reply to godjacob [2017-09-09 19:40:56 +0000 UTC]

Their voices were muffled from this vantage point, but that was irrelevant. So long as Weiss didn't act to turn off the scroll, he could continue to add to her counter. At this rate, he estimated at least an hour's worth of exposure before he would have to try again tomorrow. It was a long process to ensure six hours collectively, but nothing was worth doing if not done correctly.

Weiss would finish her call with Ruby and shut off her scroll as she would focus on a reading assignment, going towards her bunk to read the book needed for research. Weiss would do this for a good while longer, as she would avoid using the scroll for the remainder of the night.

Unaware of what the use of that scroll would lead to...

Inspiration hit. If anything, Cobalt had to admit he was being closed minded about Weiss' scroll exposure. As he expertly made his way down the tree, all he'd have to do was wait for tonight. When that night came, Cobalt crept into the student dormitory with a light step. Stealth was part of his training, a skill he used to make it to team RWBY's door. With a flick of his wrists, a lock pick set was pulled from their hidden pockets into his waiting hands. Within four minutes Cobalt had unlocked the girls' room and quietly opened the door.

The four women were asleep, at least one of them snoring to prove the point. Taking slow, deliberate steps, Cobalt made it to Weiss' bed, grateful that she was on a bottom bunk. Taking her scroll from the desk, Cobalt reactivated it, setting it to a whisper quiet setting before setting the music playlist on shuffle. Holding his breath, Cobalt placed the scroll next to Weiss' head on the bed so she would listen to the barely audible music and subliminal programming as she slept.

As quietly as he came, the spy made his way out of the room, locking the door once more as he went. As he left the dormitory, he produced Weiss' original scroll and played with the settings. He had set a timer so that the phone would turn off thirty minutes prior to her set morning alarm. With this arrangement, Weiss would be ready for the endgame by tomorrow afternoon.

Weiss would sleep away, comforted by the quite music as she would remain unaware of what was about to happen to her. Blissfuly enjoying pleasent dreams along with the rest of Team RWBY; including the snoring Yang.

During all this, a Raven on a tree-branch gazed through the window having seen all of Cobalt's actions, though being an animal it seemed like a non-factor. The bird was quite and inconspicuous before it flew off into the night...

The next day was uneventful by Hunstman training standards. Cobalt played along as the Mistral exchange student. Attending classes for Grimm and weapons information he really had no interest of relearning. All the while he did what he could to monitor Weiss' progress. By lunch time, she was just five minutes away from reaching the six-hour marker and would be ready for processing. Cobalt twirled the fork in his hand while half way through his salad, the utensil dancing on his fingers like one of his many tools up his sleeve. He made a point to sit as far away from Weiss' table as he could, glancing at her scroll for any updates he could use to his advantage.

Weiss had set her scroll aside as she would enjoy her lunch with the other members of Team RWBY, blissfully unaware she was minutes away from being placed in great danger.

No, Weiss would simply enjoy her own salad and juice as she would just chat with her friends; not using the scroll at all during this period of time.

With the lunch hour over, Cobalt took his tray to the turn in point. He just needed to be patient. She'd surly use her scroll more before the day was out. Wiping his hands with his garbage disposed of, Cobalt started to head out of the cafeteria but paused at one of the windows.

There was a corvid perched on a low hanging tree branch just beyond the building's canopy. He couldn't tell if it were a crow or raven, but we're these birds even native to Vale? Curious... that mystery aside, the spy went on his way to yet more classes.

However, Cobalt's plans seemed to take an unexpected turn as an untimely prank from Sun threatened everything. During one of Weiss' classes, Sun subtly switched the scroll with a fake duplicate and took it for himself. What Sun had in mind as once class ended Sun would walk down the halls and into his dorm, setting the scroll aside as he began to think over where he could hide it for his "prank" on Weiss; who was oblivious as to what happened at the moment.

During this, the Ravens sat on their branches, one eyeing you without you being aware of it.

What was that animal doing?! Cobalt always kept Weiss within his sight and saw plainly the Faunus steal in her scroll. The fool primate was going to delay or even derail his efforts, this couldn't stand!

The first priority was getting the scroll back. His personal scroll could confirm the programming installed to tell her scroll from others. He would lose track of Weiss once classes ended, but it had to be done.

Shadowing Wukong to his guest dorm, Cobalt made a mental note of what floor and window he'd need before heading for the trees again. The only tree was much farther from where he needed to be, which left Cobalt pressed against the building as he slid one step at a time along the thin platform to reach the bedroom.

A small diversion, a slight of hand to replace the scroll with a dummy, and he cold track down Weiss and get back to work. Cursed Faunus.

You'd find Weiss and members of Team RWBY leaving campus to go on an assigned mission, Weiss hadn't used her "scroll" so she was unaware it was a fake Sun swapped in.

"Ready to go?" Ruby asked everyone who nodded as they began to leave.

Taxima In reply to godjacob [2017-09-12 13:55:50 +0000 UTC]

Of course the animal couldn't keep his room clean. Cobalt walked away from the guest dorms with the scroll in hand. His other hand pocketed the now expended tranquilizer dart he had thrown into Sun's neck. Leaving the Faunus collapsed on his bed, Cobalt had to get back to work.

Work that was going to give him gray hair. No hide nor hair of team RWBY anywhere on campus. The mission board gave him the answer. They were on assignment. And he couldn't just go after them now, that would draw too many eyes. Dr. Watts wan NOT going to approve of this delay...

While Team RWBY was away, Neptune would walk into his team's dorm...and was stunned at what he saw.

"S-sun!" Neptune said as he went up to the tranquilized Faunus and pulled the dart out from the back of his neck.

"What the heck is going on?" Neptune asked himself as he would pick Sun up and begin to drag him to the nurse's office, keeping an eye out for anyone suspicious as he would use his scroll to contact his teammates.

.........

Weiss and the other members of Team RWBY would be seen beginning to head back to campus after having completed their mission.

Taxima In reply to godjacob [2017-09-13 00:53:01 +0000 UTC]

Good, there they were. Back from the mission promptly. Cobalt had just ended a rather lengthy scroll conversation with Doctor Watts that could have ended with a terminated contract. Thankfully, he had a chance to bring things back on course and who knows, claim his target before the day was out.

Now the tricky part was getting her scroll to her without being noticed. He couldn't just tell her he found it, not with that damn Faunus pulling the same trick he had with the decoy. He'd have to play pickpocket to switch the scrolls. To do that, he'd need a distraction...

And there was his entry. Cardin Winchester. His short time in Beacon told him that this man was every bit the stereotype he looked. Picking a pebble off the ground, Cobalt waited just until Yang passed Cardin's back before he gave the rock an expert toss to hit Cardin in the back of the head.

Cardin rubbed at his stinging head before looking at the girls laughing and walking away. Okay, you don't just hit a guy and strut off like nothing happened, and Cardin wasn't going to take that lying down, even if it was from the heartthrob of Beacon. "Hey! What do you think's the big idea? Hey! I'm talking to you, Yang!"

Ideally, the loudmouth would keep going for a few minutes. Long enough for Cobalt to walk past Weiss as if he were trying to get out of a potential fight scene, taking the dummy scroll from her pocket and returning her bugged scroll.

godjacob In reply to Taxima [2017-09-13 04:17:18 +0000 UTC]

Yang rolled her eyes as she heard Cardin call her out, turning to him with an amused grin and a shrug.

"What, throwing accusations against me Cardin. How could you, I could practically feel my heart break. I mean, I thought we had something special." Yang replied, overacting as she held her hand over her "broken" heart, Ruby laughed at this while Blake and Weiss rolled their eyes.

During all this, Weiss never noticed Cobalt switch Sun's dummy scroll with his own fake one.

"Don't play cute! I know yoy have a prole with me, so say it to my face instead of hitting me and strutting off like nothing happened!" The argument could go on however long they pleased. It meant nothing to Cobalt now that he succeeded in undoing the monkey's interference. Now it was back to the waiting game. Just seven more minutes of exposure, then he could get on with the mission and leave this school drama behind.

godjacob In reply to Taxima [2017-09-13 17:49:16 +0000 UTC]

They would argue for a few more minutes before both sides just left, not on the best of terms but that didn't matter to Team RWBY. The members would go inside their dorm and go about their leisure; Ruby and Yang would play a fighting game in front of the TV, Blake would read a book on her bed and Weiss would be working by the desk on some extra credit assignment.

More random teenager antics. This was becoming a roller coaster. The high of nearly failing his mission, to the low of waiting for something to happen. He couldn't just reactivate the music function again. Playing the same card too frequently would make her suspicious. He could call her himself, but that option was being saved for a trump card. For now, he just had to continue to exercise his patience. Letting his hands disappear into his sleeves, Cobalt felt all the various pouches of all his hidden tools. Blades, sedatives, grenades, so many little toys for his deft fingers to bring out at a moment's notice. It was comforting to remind himself about how armed and prepared he really was. He could afford to wait. seven minutes is hardly any time, after all. Eventually, the last puzzle piece would fall into place.

"You know something, we should probably schedule a meeting with Team JNPR for a group study session. Midterms are gonna be stiff this year." Weiss advised as a collection of groans came from both Yang and Ruby, Blake nodded in agreement.

"Sound plan. Are you gonna make the call?" Blake asked as Weiss nodded and began to reach for her scroll.

"OH OH I want to do it!" Ruby said as she pulled out her own scroll and Weiss paused her action.

That impatience was flaring again. Getting your lease yanked like that could do that to a guy. Not that there wasn't a way to still capitalize on the presented opportunity.

Cobalt's left hand produced a small square device. Flipping a switch, he activated the short range signal jammer. From Rose's perception, it would seem like her scroll hit a patch of bad reception. He cold keep this going until Weiss was left to make the call. Surely the SDC heiress would have the best scroll and the best service compared to the common man.

Ruby tried to call Pyrrha with her scroll, but for whatever reason she couldn't get a signal through. Odd, their dorm usually had great reception. Ruby turned to the others.

"I can't get a call through." Ruby whined, as Yang and Black tried the same thing, but also felt their signals were disrupted. This really was strange.

"Well, let me try." Weiss said as she examined her own scroll, and sure enough she had a signal.

"Huh, guess the Schnee service comes in handy. Still it is rather odd none of you can get a call through. Guess I'll handle it." Weiss said as she began to make a call to Pyrrha, getting the equivalent of a message as Pyrrha couldn't get to it at the moment. Weiss would leave one.

Another call, another few precious moments added. Perhaps it was better to wait until tonight to give her another bath. Extra subliminals beyond the six hours required could only be beneficial to their goals and with all the delays, a single night could be justified for Cobalt's work. His was a rather risky and time-consuming profession, after all.

Once Weiss finished the call, she would go back to work on extra credit as Ruby and Yang continued their game and Blake read their book. They would do this before having a little chat with each other before making preparations for bed hours later.

"It's been quite the day to say the least." Weiss said as she got herself in bed ready to hit the hay like everyone else. Soon only the light snores of Yang could be heard as everyone else slept peacefully.

Second verse, same as the first. Cobalt waited around the corner until he was sure Ren's footsteps disappeared as the man made it to the bathroom down the hall. With his path unobstructed, Cobalt made it back to RWBY's room, again picking the lock to get inside. Once there, it only took a few minutes to recreate the setup he had before as the whisper quiet music played by Weiss' head until it naturally turned off before her alarm. Cobalt mused to himself whether or not two nights would mean the rest of RWBY would also be affected if he so chose to try. Banishing that thought, Cobalt let himself, out, locking the door and sneaking his way back to the guest dorms. When tomorrow came, Cobalt simply had to get Weiss when she was alone and this would all be over.

During all this, a lone raven eyed Cobalt the entire time before flying away while Team RWBY slept undisturbed and unaware of what has transpired.

The next day would come as Team RWBY and Team JNPR were at the library making preparations for a group project between the two teams. Naturally Ruby, Yang, Nora and Juan were less than thrilled at the idea of having to do such a big project, but they knew it had to be done.

Weiss and Pyrrha organized everything and sent the members to go find certain books to use for references and citations. During this, Weiss would begin to jot down notes from her textbook as everyone else had gone off to find books.

Finally. He had to act fast. She was alone, but the area was fairly public. Fortun as tely, it had rules. Cobalt took out his personal scroll and called Weiss' number as a video call. She was going to have to leave the library to answer her scroll, and he wasn't going to stop calling until she picked up. Naturally, the call was listed as "Unknown".

Weiss felt her scroll vibrate and let out a sigh, checking it to see that it was...

Unknown.

Weiss raised an eyebrow at this, who was calling her? Usually people on her contacts called her. Could it be the school? Who knows. Ruby returned with a book as Weiss got up.

"I got to answer a call, I'll be back in a moment." Weiss said as Ruby gave a nod and Weiss walked outside to open the scroll to answer the call.

Just around the corner and out of sight, Cobalt smiled when Weiss' face came into view on the screen. He wondered if she even remembered him. Not that it mattered in the slightest. "Good afternoon. Thank you for taking this call." With no word of warning, the trigger device slipped into Cobalt's free hand for him to press the button.

The call was forcefully ended as a new screen displayed for Weiss. It was a strange mix of golds, blacks, and difficult to make out symbols. It was a chaotic mess to the eyes, but since Weiss had been conditioned for several hours by the subliminals, the effects on her would be instant. Completely transfixed on the display, Weiss' receptive mind would be programmed by the codes and cyphers with all she would need to operate exactly as Cobalt and Dr. Watts desired. After two minutes of programming, the program stopped, returning the call so Cobalt could see Weiss' face as her stupor would wear off.

Weiss was confused. That...that Cobalt guy from way back when was on the scroll. How did he get her number? What was he doing calling her in the first place? So many questions Weiss had.

All of which died the second the screen displayed a strange mix of golds, blacks, and difficult to make out symbols. This would have been nonsense to anyone else, but Weiss' "conditioning" mean the codes entered her subconscious as she soon stood with a blank, dazed expression on her face.

With a satisfied smile, Cobalt hung up his scroll and rounded to corner to walk over to Weiss. She was staring at nothing now once the program ran its course. In a moment or two, she'd come back to her senses, but the damage had been done and he was going to put it to the test.

"Weiss Schnee, if you'd please," The moment those words left his lips, the trigger would activate in Weiss' mind, making her obey the next command provided without hesitation. "Introduce yourself with a military reporting statement. Give your best Atlisian salute as you do so." Once he confirmed the programming held, they could work towards the next step in his assignment.

(Unless you want to make one up, the US military's reporting statement goes "Sir/Ma'am, (Rank and name) reports as ordered.")

Weiss immediately began to shift into a military position as she gave the Atlisian salute.

"Sir, Private Weiss Schnee, reports as ordered." Weiss repeated, like the good mindless soldier she had become.

(IDK what rank you wanted me to give her, so I just went with this. If you had something else in mind, I'm all ears)

Private. How amusing. Apparently, she didn't hold a great opinion of herself, at least in military terms. It was worth a chuckle and confirmed that the triggers were in place and being followed. Now came the more familiar territory. Before he could plan the infiltration, he needed information, which is where this little acquisition came into play.

Once the trigger wore off and Weiss was herself again, Cobalt spoke another trigger. "Fast friends." This command made the victim perceive the one who activated the trigger as a friend. While not to the depths of friendship Weiss had with team RWBY, it would justify what Cobalt suggested next. "We should head back to the dorms. There are some future events we'll need to plan for."

How considerate. Unfortunately, Cobalt was not in such a mood now that he had her compromised. He had work to do and Dr. Watts wouldn't accept unnecessary delays. "I promise what we have to work on takes priority. If you'd please, come with me so we can work together." Giving her the command again, Cobalt began to lead Weiss to the guest dorms, walking at her side to keep an eye on her as they traveled.

Weiss felt a sudden urge to comply and follow Cobalt as he walked by her side and led her toward the guest dorms. Team RWBY and Team JNPR oblivious.

All the while a long raven watched the pair, only for a moment, before it flew away.

Finally back in his rather empty looking dorm room, Cobalt closed and locked the door behind him once Weiss was inside. Now they could actually do some work. "Mission statement." At this command, Weiss would enter a trance light state and internalize everything as an objective she had to accomplish.

With her prepped, Cobalt walked to the desk, pulling open a large drawer. Taking out the cloths from the drawer, he removed the false bottom he had installed and got to the contents of the hidden compartment. Documents and files all relating to the Schnee Dust Company. "There will be a few weeks vacation time coming to Beacon. When it comes, you will return to Atlas to visit your family. While in Atlas, you will visit the corporate headquarters of the Schnee Dust Company. While there, I want you to access your father's computer in his office."

While giving his instructions, Sal held up a black and gold trimmed flash drive to Weiss' eyes so she could see it. "Once there, you will plug this into the computer. This will download any security clearance your father has in the company, which should be nigh total. You will then find me in the building's lobby and give me the drive discretely. From there, you will spend the rest of your vacation however you feel and return to Beacon none the wiser for what you've done. Repeat back to me your mission."

Weiss herself wouldn't have the needed clearance he needed for the SDC's Research and Development section, but getting to her father's office would be within her power. Whatever project they were working on inside, Dr. Watts and his employer desired it greatly. That was where the industrial spy Cobalt came into play, which is why he had to play meek exchange student in Beacon to make this happen.

Weiss would nod as she received the flash drive, she understood what she had to do and...w-wait...

"Yes, I will download security clearance and...and...w-wait...this...this isn't..." Weiss started to say, as amazingly enough the idea of breaking and and helping hack her family data was causing the heir to the Schnee family to resist your influence.

Even if only on a small level.

Resistance? This wasn't expected. After all the time exposed to the subliminals, her programming should hold strong. Was the fact she was asleep most of that time have something to do with it? His employer seemed to swear by this programming of his, but it seemed all so experimental to Cobalt.

He wasn't going to be deterred just yet. For now, his best option was to reinforce the triggers. "Weiss, if you'd please , recite and reaffirm your mission statement ."
