Description Run time: 12:20

You may find it faster/smoother to download the file to your desktop and play it in your browser.

Also, be sure to check out my Prints II Windows XP FTP Tutorial to learn how to upload via FTP.

In November, 2006 deviantART Prints II was launched. The most important change is the addition of the Standard Print Account, available now to all deviants free of charge. That's right, every single one of the 3.5+ million members of deviantART now has a free Standard Print Account. This tutorial will show you how you can easily make your work available for free to the entire world in a variety of sizes, finishes, and products.

This tutorial is far from perfect but I'm far from being a professional speaker so it all works out. This is all one take so bear with my bumbling.

Things I missed

• Crop nodes. The nodes on the corners and sides of your preview in the Adjust Image tool will allow you to do a custom crop on your work, rather than just relying on the Scale tool and default crop/matte options. Be sure to play with these settings until you get the look you desire.

• Canvas prints. Using the matte feature will ensure your image is not wrapped around the wooden frame used for canvas prints.

• FTP uploads are now synced with the File Deck.

If you notice anything else I've missed that you feel is significant, please let me know. An updated version is in the works.

Um, I don't have a "Make Print" button on my deviation page? Any help would be great.

You can't sell fanart prints so anything in that category will not have the link to make a print.

I don't understand why a "bleed" is NOT a bleed... and "no bleed" IS a bleed Isn't a "bleed" when the image is printed so as to run all the way to edge of the paper?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

godofodd In reply to beta3 [2007-04-05 13:25:42 +0000 UTC]

We use "bleed" in place of "margin", essentially. Bleed is actually the portion of the image added beyond the trim edge in order to ensure the colour runs right to the edge. Because our system automatically uses the full image, we call margin "bleed" to indicate added space around the edge that can be slightly undertrimmed to make for a nice edge without the risk of cutting off important pieces of the image (like copyrights running along the edge, etc.).

beta3 In reply to godofodd [2007-04-05 17:13:35 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I understand now. Using "bleed" instead of "margin" still seems a bit odd to me though. Oh well. Thanks for explaining

It is odd and I can totally understand any confusion. It took me awhile to get used to the mixed up terminology myself. And I work here!

This is a dumb question but... You have to be a subscriber to submit prints right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

godofodd In reply to Pheonixonfire2 [2007-02-01 18:03:21 +0000 UTC]

Nope! Since the launch of Prints II in November, all users have a free Standard Print account.

The tutorial is very nice, but... print accounts are now free??? I had to PAY for one and I want my money back.

godofodd In reply to zoephoenix [2007-01-29 05:24:40 +0000 UTC]

By purchasing a Premium Account before the switch to Prints II, you now have a lifetime Premium Account. Any new Premium users have to pay a yearly fee. The Standard Account is the free one. FAQ #705: What is the difference between a Standard print account and Premium Subscription Print Account?

The profit shares are detailed in the following FAQ entry:

And yeah, it's tough to know what will and will not sell. I personally use the service more often for purchasing copies of my own work to give to family and friends than anything else.
