Description Run time: 12:20

You may find it faster/smoother to download the file to your desktop and play it in your browser.

Also, be sure to check out my Prints II Windows XP FTP Tutorial to learn how to upload via FTP.

In November, 2006 deviantART Prints II was launched. The most important change is the addition of the Standard Print Account, available now to all deviants free of charge. That's right, every single one of the 3.5+ million members of deviantART now has a free Standard Print Account. This tutorial will show you how you can easily make your work available for free to the entire world in a variety of sizes, finishes, and products.

This tutorial is far from perfect but I'm far from being a professional speaker so it all works out. This is all one take so bear with my bumbling.

Things I missed

• Crop nodes. The nodes on the corners and sides of your preview in the Adjust Image tool will allow you to do a custom crop on your work, rather than just relying on the Scale tool and default crop/matte options. Be sure to play with these settings until you get the look you desire.

• Canvas prints. Using the matte feature will ensure your image is not wrapped around the wooden frame used for canvas prints.

• FTP uploads are now synced with the File Deck.

If you notice anything else I've missed that you feel is significant, please let me know. An updated version is in the works.

Please read through the Prints FAQ . If you still have questions, I'd be happy to help.

I should point out an important FAQ entry: FAQ #613: How old do I have to be to sell my prints?

You did *such* a phenomenally excellent job in piecing this tutorial together and also on presenting us all how the prints are actually being created on dA, godofodd, and I think that it is such an outstanding informative resource that is MOST ABSOLUTELY welcome here, you know that?

I so highly recommend this piece for anybody wanting to create a print on deviantART indeed, as this is such awesome inspiration and then some!!!

Congratulations to you for such an utterly splendid dA tutorial, godofodd!!! !

well.. what if i got my subscription just for the prints thing before everyone could do it?
could i possibly get my money back?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

godofodd In reply to enigma-tyck [2006-12-31 06:50:19 +0000 UTC]

That means you now have a lifetime Premium Account (which now has a yearly fee for any new subscribers) while everyone without a Premium Account has a Standard Account. You have a lot more features available to you.

Just curious,

what happens for users not in the USA and people not in the USA buying prints?

The Prints program is available to both artists and customers around the world. The following FAQ entry will tell you what countries are currently available as shipping destinations:

FAQ #119: Where can prints be shipped?

Thanks for the help.
Is there a video file/youtube page we can watch this, also?

After a short while, it gets pretty out of synch.
And if users with slower broadband speeds try this page, it may be slower.

godofodd In reply to Whothehellisthat [2006-12-29 16:44:35 +0000 UTC]

You can download the SWF to your desktop by selecting the Download link. Unfortunately, Youtube videos must be under 10 minutes in length. I'm looking into other options for the next version.

Whothehellisthat In reply to godofodd [2006-12-31 23:14:45 +0000 UTC]

I've downloaded the swf.
The lack of controls (pause, skip, etc.) is slightly annoying - but nice tut, man.

godofodd In reply to Whothehellisthat [2006-12-31 23:17:28 +0000 UTC]

If I had any idea how to add them, I would!

Whothehellisthat In reply to godofodd [2007-01-01 01:50:04 +0000 UTC]

That's why I said you could put on the vid (zipped up) as the download.

That would be cool

godofodd In reply to Whothehellisthat [2007-01-01 06:49:56 +0000 UTC]

You can't put video formats on deviantART (avi, mov, etc.). I think I'll split up the new version in two parts and put it on Youtube with the links in the description. That should help out.

Looking forward to it.

I'm thinking of getting prints of my own work with dA.

Thanks for the help.

Yesterday I had such a headache with the new print system and eventually didn't manage to send a hires file for an existing deviation.
Now everything looks luminous to me.
Thanks a million times for this.

You're the first I've had comment on this. Have you tried downloading the SWF to your desktop and playing it in your browser? Right click this [link] and save it to your desktop. Drag the file into your browser window to play it.

That strange "double comment" effect disappeared when reloading the page.

Perhaps it was a false alarm, the tutorial was great and I was able to make my prints available in minutes!

Thank you!

Hurray! Sweet!

This is cool! Nice early Christmas gift from Da. I'm sure you guys will make out good as well--profits from us, profits from our work--win-win situation. Though getting a buck from a 5.00 peice of art is disapointing, I see it's all in how it is.
