In the mid stages of the war, as the newer leadership began to take power throughout the Federation. The war started grinding down into bitter sieges across the free colonies and allies and enemies began defecting to the opposite alliance.

One of the Empire's newer allies in the war against the Federation was the colony world of Aral, the capital of a sizeable alliance under the imperial banner. The Federation had orders to begin launching an invasion on their world as a diversion to occupy the Alliance of the White Star's ground forces and potentially starve out the surrounding systems by taking their agricultural center. With Imperial forces already spread out and around occupied in fighting elsewhere, and Aral's defenses having been destroyed in orbit by the Terran fleet, the door was wide open for landings.

Those landings would have been costly. Very costly. Aral was very built up infrastructurally and had a large population that was subsidized by lab grown humans for nearly a hundred years now by the Empire. It was a winnable siege granted that a constant stream of Terran reinforcements and supplies would be brought in, but sieges are often thwarted by an enemy fleet pushing out the attackers. There was a debate in the bridge. The officers and leadership of the Army and Navy tasked with this invasion had ideas, but nobody could come to an agreement on the proceeding of the invasion. Demands to surrender to the planet went ignored, as they often do when a large army is prepared to defend it, and surface to orbit guns, though many were taken out by precision strikes, were still operating.
