Description Uniform Characters/refs and color refs of the main characters in the Azen Empire in my setting. There's many other characters, but these ones are probably the most recurring. For myΒ  Β setting.

The flags don't represent where they are from, as they've been about 700 years detached from any Earth nation, but more-so where their ancestors came from

SSG Darin Helmar:
The eldest child of the Helmar family. When their mom died in the accident and their father shut himself away, Darin essentially became the man of the house by default. Though they had a maid to help, Darin himself went through great lengths as a child to see his brother and sister taken care of. Having wanted to serve like his father before him and give to his country, but not wanting to follow the path that was expected of him. He wanted to walk his own path so he chose the enlisted, to serve as a lowly grunt. Though mostly uneventful for his 10 year contract, he managed to work his way up to staff sergeant, though he himself claims that he doesn't know how this happened as he has consistently been a soldier that embodies that 'enlisted charm' of absolutely being the guy that jokes around way too often and is the one out 'mopping up the rain water during a thunderstorm'. In truth, he's been a motivating factor for his own platoon, by offering help and taking charge in tasks needing to be done. So much was the influence he gave off that his leadership saw the potential of another great Helmar name and started climbing him up the ladder. When the war started, he was already on the planet Halle with a chunk of the Sector 5 army preparing an invasion of Imperial space. When the Imperial armada arrived, it trapped him and the army of sector 5 on the planet, with no way out. Now stuck behind enemy lines, his only goal is to get the remainder of his platoon out of there back to friendly territory and to regroup with his company.

Capt Damien Stolki:
A childhood friend of Darin since they both went to the same school (Which was a military school on base). Not being as overall goofy as Darin, he's absolutely been one who follows Darin's lead when something stupid is proposed. Though Damien's life has been significantly easier to some extent, being the posterchild of a pampered son of an Admiral. He joined the military not out of a patriotic sense of pride, but moreso because he was expected to. Originally joining the Air Force as a pilot on commission, so that he knew he'd never have to be deployed anywhere except friendly space, he eventually changed his mind and actually joined the Naval Air Corps. A drinker, a womanizer, and surprisingly a pretty good pilot; Damien's managed to schmooze his way to the rank of Captain. Having no interest to progress further than that and become essentially a desk jockey like his father, Damien is quite content to turn down any promotions sent his way to keep himself in the seat of a fighter. When the war broke out, he was able to put his skills to use as a pilot. His wing was literally just him and 2 unmanned AI fighters on either side of him, but their support has helped keep him alive in some of the trickiest situations. Being in the fight from the start of the war at the Dark Marches, to being recalled to Halle briefly with the 1st Fleet he was deployed with, he's seen every theater of the war so far.

MAJ Vanessa Helmar:
Originally looking up to her father as a child, she had aspirations of being just like him. To make him proud after their mother died. She had not seen him happy, or seen him happy in general in a long time. But as she grew up, she became more and more distant from her father, who'd only ever take himself away from his work briefly. Eventually the hero worship died and she viewed him as a frail old man that was not a good father. She wanted to not be just like him, she wanted to be better than him. Joining the officer academy, she pushed herself hard daily to beat as many records and more specifically her own father's. She wanted to step out of his shadow. The problem was, he Father was the High General of the Terran military, and her brother by now was already a well liked infantryman. She was already in both their shadows. Being assigned to a desk job despite her constant protests and transfer requests to the front, it wasn't until Halle was besieged that she was given her chance. Taking a promotion Captain and transferring to fill in the position of the old Captain who had died in the opening stages, she rushed to Halle. She'd prove her mettle and worth, and she'd find her brother if she could no matter what. (Though a captain at the start of the story, she becomes a major very shortly after)

2LT Alexander Helmar:
The youngest, and also tallest of the Helmars, little can be said about Alex. Having remained mostly in the background of his family since childhood, he's always just sort of 'followed the leader'. From Childhood he's always been dragged into dumb situations with Darin and Damien. Though his meek attitude and uncanny ability to be unseen despite standing out in the open and being the largest kid around usually helps him avoid punishment that goes his way. Growing up he just followed his family's footsteps. Did essentially the same things as his brother through childhood. Never really came into his own as a person. He joined the officers because he felt pressured to and it was expected of him despite not actually wanting to serve. Stuck in the shadow of his siblings and his father, there's little that he feels he can do at this point to break out, and instead will just follow along where he's sent to. When the war broke out he was sent to a rear unit guarding a comms array on the planet Atari. He's been there doing mundane tasks with his company to date.

ADM Vasili Kochenk:
The head of the Terran intelligence services, he is a man of many secrets. Having taken a hit at the start by the travesty that was Halle and the total surprise the fleet managed to pull over on the Terrans, Admiral Kochenk nearly lost his position for his intelligence services having missed a fleet hiding out. In the end, a military tribunal cleared him of blame, opting to keep the experienced intelligence officer rather to throw it away. Despite the failure of his service, he himself has been spearheading several successful intelligence operations both before and during the war's start. Taking an interest in Vanessa Helmar's prominent rise to fame and rise through the ranks, he's been quick to try and promote her as 'the new face' of the Federation. Young, intelligence, fearless. He's begun the process of nudging things in her direction a little bit more. Terra needs heroes afterall, does it not? Terra needs a new face of leadership.

HADM Anton Stolki:
Damien's Father and also a bit more of a father figure to some of the Helmar children then their own father even, Anton has done his best to assist the Helmar family where he can. Showing up like that cool uncle with presents from time to time. After the accident that killed his friend Rorick's wife, he personally saw how much it broke the man. He'd been trying to get Rorick back to his old self for a while but fears that it's too late for the father of the Helmar children. It became even harder to be there for Rorick's kids, even his own when he accepted the title of High Admiral of the Federation Navy a few years prior to the start of the War. Though, his reasons for accepting the role are less so for the children, and were more so to try and at least be close enough to Rorick to monitor his depressive tendencies. He's a man that's been attempting to hold so much together on his own. From the Navy itself, to his childhood friend, to his friends' own broken family. He's a man of extreme determination and willpower.
