Description
Part Dos of my Valentine's Quartet. If you told me to pick one phrase to sum up why I find the pairing of Sonic and Sally so appealing, I'd tell you to shut up because it can't be, at least not for me, but then after I realized it's more a rhetorical question than anything else I'd probably say "Us Against the World" would be right up there.
This is part of a pair of SonSal pics I drew based on that phrase.

Impressive.
Love your attention to detail about the scars of war.
This is something I wish Archie would've allowed.

Thank you very much. I don't begrudge Archie's choice to go in a different direction, but I do like to remember this aspect of the SatAM story and consider it a very important one.

So do I.
It was this kind of storyline why I grew to love this genre of Sonic.

Besides being a sucker for actual gritty wounds and scratches, I like this for how well it catches their mindsets. Sonic is obviously exhausted, but is directing every bit of his mind toward standing up and keeping up the fight; Sally's scanning for the next threat and staying ready to meet it, while at the same time supporting him. Not just physically - the hand on his chest looks more like she's simply reminding him she's there.

a.) It's a bit of a hold-over from my "RAR ALL ART MUST BE GRIM!DARK" days of adolescent insecurity, but I too have a soft spot for good wound drawings, and thus try to do them justice whenver I draw them.
b.) That's a rather astute observation about the characterization, actually, and while I admit I don't think I had it quite that specific in my mind, I definitely picked the poses because they felt "right" in my mind.

Well, sometimes I need to draw grim, dark things. But to force yourself to do it is silly. (Speaking from experience, haha)

Yeah, don't get me wrong; grim!dark has its place, you just have to remember what that place is and when to use it. ^_^

This looks really good! Just like in this pic, one of the reason I love Sonally is, they stand up together no matter what.

I like the look on Sally's face in this one.
And Sonic looks like he just took a beating!
Quick question though: did you do this exclusively in pens or do you start with pencil sketches?

They're both supposed to look roughed up here, hence the title. ^_^
And I do indeed start with Pencil Sketches.

The coloring is terrible... actually sonic fanart is the worst art in the world. Pleas be original.

I love Sally's solemn, determined look, and the clenched fists of both - gives the feeling they're about to do SOETHING, even if they're not sure what.

I'm not sure I know what...looks to be a pretty desperate situation they're trapped in.
