Did you use a photo reference for him? The pose seems familiar...
OK, gotta ask: Who's your favourite Cardassian?

I used a reference, but not of any Cardassian - just made a friend of mine sit at a chair like that and took a photo. Then changed him into a Cardassian.
My favourite is Garak. I absolutely love him: the snark, the slyness, the capacity for deceit and betrayal - and yet, he cared so much... Just love him.
After Garak, I think I love Dukat and Damar pretty much equally.
And yours?

Really? Wow. Can I have his number?
Garak with Dukat a close second.
I agree, Garak is just too awesome for words! I love the subtext to everything he says, you know, like he's saying one thing and meaning another Plus he's just so funny!
Dukat, also awesome, and honestly more my type (physically) than Garak. Watching him interact with Kira is just amazing. I wanna be Kira OTL I didn't like him after he went all nuts and F-you-everyone-I'm-going-to-betray-all-of-you. But I feel for the dude, really, and Mr. Alaimo is amazing.
Damar and Madred tie for third Damar... once a wuss, always a wuss. He totally redeemed himself, but whenever I think of him I can't stop thinking, this is the dude who lay down and let the Dominion take everything from him. Madred is just nuts, but he's one of those guys you love to hate. And I think it's important we see the "dark side" of the Cardassians now and then, because no matter how nice they act, they are capable of a lot O.o

haha!!
Yeah, Garak sure knew how to be funny. He truly is awesome!
I agree, Dukat's more my type physically too. I mean, yum. He was the reason I got hooked into DS9, actually - I came across the 1st episode on tv be accident, flipping through channels - and it was one of his scenes. I was fascinated - first, by his looks (hadn't seen a Cardassian before - didn't watch the TNG episodes of them till a lot later); then, by the fact that he was clearly the villain, and yet, the charm...!!
He annoyed me when he went nuts, but I couldn't really blame him for his actions, he was insane, and he still made the most awesome villain. I was spitting mad at the writers for doing this to him though. Cried my eyes out when he was crying over Ziyal's body.
Damar... I've a love/hate relationship with him. Liked him a lot till he killed Ziyal - then hated him for killing Ziyal and rolling over for the Dominion - then loved him when he found his backbone. And he was handsome, too.
Madred is an awesome villain yes. Like you say, you love to hate him!

The Cardassians are the only reason I watch(ed) DS9... Well, Odo is amazing too "What were you this time? The table, one of the chairs?... the WINE BOTTLE?!"
Sisko annoys me though
And indeed, Damar does have a certain... je ne sais quoi to him, huh?
I'm also writing a Trek story What's yours about?

Odo was awesome. And Dax. Jadzia though - Ezri was... annoying.
Don't know about Sisko - I liked him at points, disliked him at others. meh.
Our story wasn't anything much - we just wrote it for ourselves. It was a murder mystery that happened while a Cardassian freighter was docked at a Federation starbase; a Vulcan engineer and a junior glinn from the freighter have to work together to uncover it.
Didn't have much of a plot, but it was fun collaborating with my friend to write it.
Can I ask what your story is about? Or are you going to post it to read?

RiseofDarkFire In reply to googoolini [2011-01-27 02:29:42 +0000 UTC]
That's true. I really liked Jadzia Dax, not Ezri. Jadzia was amazing
So who did it? Or do I have to read to find out?
My story's in developmental stages, basically set in the future (to justify new uniforms, hehe) where Cardassia has rebuilt and returned to its pre-Dominion state. With changes, but you know. Basically. The Federation and the Cardassian Union are trying to negotiate a peace treaty, which is met with opposition from both sides, but they're trying. As a gesture of goodwill, a glinn from the Gavran trades places temporarily with the First Officer of the Orion... and then the excrement hits the rotating air circulation device. You have murders aboard the Orion, rascists on both ships, mechanical failures, plots, schemes, etc., etc., that end in both ships being knocked out of commission and thrown into either another galaxy or an alternate universe. I'm not sure which I want to do The alternate-universe thing has been done before and usually isn't very different from what we know, e.i. it has all the key characters in it already, but I don't want my guys to meet each other. On the other hand, a new galaxy is new as far as I know, but I'd have to make my own life-forms and explain how they got there. Like, the Milky Way was seeded by the Ancient Humanoids, but what would life look like elsewhere? Also I have no idea how long I want it to be, which would determine where I take my crews.

oh, turns out the Gul of the freighter was mixing with the Romulans, and they killed him after they were done playing him. (personally, I think no-one can beat the Romulans for deviousness as a rule, though certain Cardassian individuals are obviously an exception.
)
Your story sounds *very* interesting!! Will you please note me or smth when you post it? I'd very much like to read it!!
(godsdamn it, I *miss* my Cardassians... So much so that I was ridiculously happy Uhura asked for a Cardassian Sunrise in nuStarTrek, lol)

Hm, now that sounds interesting! Romulans V. Cardassians My engineering chief is a Rommy and she isn't very devious... yet. *fixes* But seriously, it's true! Somehow I just never thought of Romulans as devious, despite all the tricky things they do. Yeah, shows what kinda Trekkie I am *bows head in shame*
My story will probably be more like episodes though Like, the "pilot" will pretty much be a tamer version of what I've described... but absolutely! I don't post my writing as a rule but I'm always happy to share
Is yours available anywhere?
And I know! ^^ I *squeed* when Uhura asked for the CS... to the confusion of my parents and sister. I then had to explain who the Cardassians were (I think I said deviously clever and amoral grey lizard-people from space...) and earned more funny looks all round XD She should have asked for kanar though, if you ask me
Did you notice the tribble in the movie? O.o

googoolini In reply to RiseofDarkFire [2011-01-30 10:20:04 +0000 UTC]
I don't think *all* Romulans are that devious (I mean, it's apparently a race trait, but I'm sure there's perfectly non-devious Romulans. Just not many? )
Oh my story isn't fit to be read by anyone else, trust me - I'm telling you, it's full of plot-holes and stuff, we only wrote it for fun.
I'd really love to read yours though, if you'd like!! If you don't wanna post it, I could note you my email so you could send it. Again, only if you want to, I won't be upset or anything if you don't.
Maybe kanar wasn't widely available at Kirk's point in history? I mean, we don't know exactly when the Federation made First Contant with Cardassia, but at that point, it can't have been for very long. And considering that kanar wasn't very widely available even in the time of DS9...
I didn't notice the tribble until I was told there was a tribble - and even then I had to pause my dvd at Scotty's first scene and look for it to see where it was. But I laughed my head off at the mention of Admiral Archer's prize beagle. I can just imagine the *look* on Archer's face!

Like I said, I've barely started I've posted a teaser [link] and then you can decide whether you want to read the rest when I finish it...
The Cardassians first appeared in TNG, and I think they were created to give Picard a villain on his own level, but I think First Contact was before that. I don't know the date.
I didn't honestly click with me that Admiral Archer was Jonathan Archer >.< Even the beagle thing! I think it's because, although it's much lower-tech and stuff, I always think ENT is set after TOS. Shame on me! O.o

Never saw the very first Cardassian episodes (though I know Alaimo plays in them, 'cause in the DS9 books they explained the likeness between his two characters as them being cousins ), though the Chain of Command episodes are amongst my top favourites. But I think First Contact had been long before their first appearance, no?
lol, it's because, even though it was first chronologically, ENT looked higher-tech than TOS. It was the flatscreens, methinks. But now with the new Star Trek all the tech has been updated, it's easier to think of it being 80 yrs before (or however much it was).
I really liked ENT (despite all its flaws), so hearing Archer's dog mentioned made me laugh.

Mm, Gul Macet was the first Cardassian to appear on-screen. Lame armour, yellow skin, a beard of sorts and a very odd headset that he seemed to wear only on his ship. I'm VERY glad they updated the appearance ^^ NuCardies are SMEXY The dog thing was amusing even without catching the reference ^^ And yeah, I know ENT is set before TOS... I just forget a lot
