Description One of a number of freshly refurbished Pzkpfw-IV Ausf-D, part of a large batch of remanufactured Ausf-D’s, in the summer of 1942. This vehicle shows multiple upgrades including, most notably, a new 7.5cm KwK L/43 main armament, turret schurzen, wider drive sprockets, wider road wheels, tubular rear idler, 40 cm wide tracks, a standardized spare wheel box and a new armored smoke discharger. It also has had the turret ventilation hatch deleted and replaced with a single exhaust fan. Other deleted features include both the signal ports on the turret’s roof, its Notek headlight and both original headlights (these being replaced with a pair of Bosh headlights). Its color scheme consists of a base coat of dunked gelb (RAL 7028) with no over spray or markings. With all these changes the vehicle looks very similar to late Ausf-Gs and series production Ausf-Hs, however, with the exception of the vehicle’s hull/superstructure sides, converted Ausf-D would have had inferior armor protection.  Of all the Ausf-D converted, only one 7.5cm KwK L/43 Ausf-D remains today; it can be seen as a part of the British Army Tank Museum's large varied armored collection.
