Description A Pzkpfw-IV Ausf-D from the 21st Panzer Division, 5th Panzer Regiment, DAK, in North Africa in the summer of 1942. The vehicle has a base coat of dark gray (RAL 7027) with a complete overcoat of desert yellow (RAL 8000). Markings consist of a large tactical number ‘801’ in red or black outlined in white, a standard balkankreuz on the superstructure sides and rear, a white DAK emblem on the front plate to the right of the bow machine gun, on the superstructure sides and (probably) rear hull. The divisional emblem— a white D with a horizontal line through it— has been stenciled on the stepped portion of the front plate left of the driver’s visor. One unusual feature of the vehicle is the memorial plaque to a dead crew member painted in black and white on the radio-operator’s side visor, it appears to read “ Gefreiter Otto Irrgang  ✞ 23.6.40 / Boreppe.”
