Basilisk - a strange creature, not an animal, nor a demon, born once per every century. It hatched from an egg laid by a rooster and incubated by a toad for nine years. A truly frightening beast, it had a head of its' father, yellowish eyes of a toad, membranous wings and its' body was covered in scales, from neck to the tip of reptilian tail, simillar to a snake. The gaze of the basilisk was so terrifying, that those who looked it in the eye were turned to stone from fright.

Bazyliszek – ni to zwierzę, ni to diabeł, które podobno przychodziło na świat raz na sto lat. Wykluwał się z jaja zniesionego przez koguta, a wysiadywanego przez ropuchę okrągłe dziewięć lat. Stwór to był przerażający, o głowie koguciej po ojcu odziedziczonej z olbrzymim, czerwonym grzebieniem i wydętym gardłem. Posiadał żółte ropusze oczy, błoniaste skrzydła oraz wężowy ogon i cielsko łuską pokryte. Najstraszniejsze jednak były jego połyskujące oczy, których spojrzenie było tak przerażające, iż w jednej chwili zamieniało jego ofiarę w kamień.

First part of my "Slavic Bestiary" project. My vision of the appearance of the beast was inspired by the descriptions and illustrations from various Slavic Mythologies and Bestiaries and of course by The Witcher series.
One of illustrations from artistic part of my thesis, a bit different from the original.
