Description
ENGLeshy - an ancient spirit, lord of the forest and animals inhabiting it. He appeared under many forms, some humanoid, some animalistic or, sometimes, even as a gust of wind. Leshy was very protective of his secrets and domain, often causing unwated guests to lose their way when crossing the forest under his protection. Those who tried to harm nature or disturb its' peace, the spirit harmed directly. Leshy helped those, who were respectful, leading lost people and livestock out of the forest or protecting them from wild animals and bandits.

Leszy – zwany również borowym, był prastarym duchem, panem lasu i wszystkich zwierząt w nim żyjących. Ujawniał się w różnych formach, zarówno humanoidalnych jak i zwierzęcych, takich jak wilk, niedźwiedź, czy puchacz. Czasem jednak jego obecność przejawiała się wyłącznie w podmuchu wiatru. Strzegł on swoich tajemnic i niechcianym gościom potrafił poplątać ścieżki lub skrzywdzić ludzi, którzy niszczyli przyrodę i zakłócali spokój leśnych stworzeń. Jednak bywał leszy również pomocny: wyprowadzał zagubionych ludzi i zwierzęta gospodarskie z lasu, czy też chronił dzieci przed zbójami i dziką zwierzyną.

Sixth part of my "Slavic Bestiary" project - Leshy. I must say I really love his design in The Witcher 3, it also reminds me of Hircine from TES xD

So I haven't read the books in English yet, but I know that in French, and in the games (both in French and English), they're called Leshen, whereas the Leshiye (that's the plural) are the Polish myth they're inspired from. But I could be wrong.

Whenever you translate a name or a title, there's gonna be multiple versions, especially when translating from a language that has different roots than the translation.

I often thought, the first time, that Leshy seems a pacifist spirit. But it have never been true in Northern Kingdoms, when you try to run away the Leshy with your horse.

It reminds me of Hircin as well, but it's Leshy, spirit/demon from Slavic Mithology. I was inspired by the design from The Witcher 3.
