This was supposed to be my 1000th deviation but apparently I've passed that already. Which tells me I really need to go clean up my gallery
Pony-drawing-tutorial thing because people have been asking to see my process
Elaborates on this , in that I actually tell people what I'm doing Had to sacrifice quality so it wouldn't turn out as an 8-megabyte .jpg file. If any parts are unclear tell me and I can type it out down here

Just read through all the comments (and only 5 minutes of class passed by! What is this, time dilation?!) and did not see an answer I was hoping for (I really tried o' Great and Powerful Grievous of Fans).Β
Why do you use Flash over Illustrator? Most other artists like to use either InkScape or Illustrator for vectoring ponies. Is it because you are just more familiar with Flash due to school courses or is there another reason that makes Illustrator less appealing for drawing lithe ponies?Β

Illustrator makes it as difficult as fuckin' possible for me to actually draw things. I would much prefer to draw my ponies over vectoring; I've vectored for class assignments before but it's still a pain and I can draw much faster. Not to mention I have more control over my lines
Not that Flash doesn't have problems. Thanks to the Brush smoothing I sometimes have to redraw the same line a dozen times before it comes out how I want, so now I pretty much do all my comics in Photoshop and resources/bigger ponies (as in file size) in Flash

Then you have a very steady hand. My knowledge of all the little tricks of Photoshop, Flash, and Illustrator are very limited but it just looked like you were using Flash in the same way most people use Illustrator. Seeing as how I have not used Flash, I am just making observations from what I have seen in this guide.Β
Conclusion: I have no clue what is going on and I don't see much of a difference between Flash and Illustrator as the moment.Β

How long does it take you on average to draw a pony using this method (assuming Discord doesn't interrupt)?

Well Adobe has, since I made this tutorial, pretty much killed Flash so now it's a struggle getting everything to look right
Now I just do all my outlining in Photoshop, and one pony usually takes 20-30 minutes to outline, then five minutes to color

I hate to bug about this but what kind of brush settings do you use for the outline? Maybe I'm just dumb as a derp but the outlines keep fluctuating in thickness and the size changes smaller as I zoom in. It's a real struggle for me to understand. @.@

Flash's Brush tool :V I use different sizes depending on how far I'm zoomed in. Some of the curves have to be drawn with one line or else they get squiggly, so the big long curves are usually thicker because I have to zoom out to see the whole thing.

For versatility, I would get Photoshop
For animating/vectors, I would get Flash, since it's vector-based (smooth graphics) while Photoshop is raster-based (pixelates frikkin' everything).

Hmmm. It's interesting to see how others create lineart. For me, I use Manga Studio 5. And essentially the same method as you. However, I can color in the original outline color for the whole thing without worrying about the "draw under" option as you will.

I would draw so that the line's end would go past each point of intersection, then quickly switch to the eraser tool and erase a small part of each overlapping line. The program then erases the whole line up until it collides with another line you drew, and gets rid of the need to color lines separately. It's also saved as a vector, so scalability is an option.
I never knew you outlined in flash, your lines always seemed too smooth to be the brush tool. Keep on drawing, love your anatomical style.
