I'm so glad you made this. I'm just starting a portrait of The Riddler and I was starting to worry about the red/green mixes and how I'd shade and color it, and this helped A LOT, especially the note about the Multiply layers. Amazing. 8D

The-Greatest-Mystery In reply to ??? [2010-11-08 15:23:56 +0000 UTC]

if you have the blendmode to multiply, will it make a difference if the sketch is on one layer and the colouring on another?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

griffsnuff In reply to The-Greatest-Mystery [2010-11-08 15:36:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes the sketch needs to be on a seperate layer and will be the only layer with multiply, all the coloring will happen on layers under the sketch layer

dittin03 In reply to ??? [2010-11-08 03:18:52 +0000 UTC]

Did you paint on many layers or just one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

griffsnuff In reply to dittin03 [2010-11-08 03:25:02 +0000 UTC]

in this tutorial ive painted on only one layer, i usually like to have as few layers as possible xD

but i tend to draw the sky on a seperate one at the bottom and the nature on one and characters on a seperate one if i have thoose to.

If i add things im not sure will fit or not, i try on a seperate layer, if i like it i merge it with the rest, if not i can easily delete the layer

I sometimes also like to use the blendingmodes and then i use seperate layers for what ever is on them to create effects x3

And sometimes i have the foreground, middleground, background and sky on diffrent layers.

It really depends xD

Thanks for the info! I feel safer using layers in order to make quick and easy changes later.

since this one was such a great success, i think u should make another one about how to apply this technique to characters

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

griffsnuff In reply to Zyphergale [2010-11-07 00:46:36 +0000 UTC]

Its the same way x3 draw the characters shape with the basic colors of the character and use the opacity the same way like explained here, like on the tree
