Looks like King Dad no longer approves of his daughter's mate--oops! That might have been a spoiler alert! I'll explain later.

Since Kovu and the other Outsiders were trained harshly by Zira for years, I imagine them as having very keen senses and being pretty light sleepers. Kovu is just grumpy because his mother raised him to hate as well as training him relentlessly, and he doesn't like being woken up before he's ready.

The lionesses in the background are Tiifu and Zuri, in case that wasn't obvious.
