No, this was not inspired by 's recent revival of Malka, Tojo, and Chumvi in Missing Pieces. This was planned since the very inception of the comic XD.
Headcanon time! 1. Simba and Nala's friends were pretty tight growing up during Scar's reign, which is why they call each other brother and sister.
2. Kiara calls them aunt and uncle because she's known them since she was a cub, and they're pretty much family to her. Except Mheetu of course, since he is family.
3. Malka's "real name" is Malaika, and he grew into it as he got older.
4. Chumvi's hair has that cream color on its tips because his dad was Scar's Keenest of Sight. Not sure if I want to keep the rest as the semi-canon cubs' fathers.
Oh, and Kiara's jumping up to hug Mheetu in the last panel.
