A scene from a story I've had in my head for a very long time. This is the first time I've used a photo reference for the face and had it turn out well- I'm worried it might have been a fluke. The limited color palette probably helps.

The fantastic photo reference I used can be found in the flickr gallery of Lindsey Scott by clicking here . I swear I didn't just cut out the head and paste it into my picture... well I did, but I pasted it next to the head I wanted to paint and used it to color pick, check proportions and the like.

Consider me a firm believer now in using photo references for human figures- the main character in this image is an order of magnitude better than any human figure I've painted in the past (although you can pretty easily tell where my photo reference ended ).
