I don't like the name Heartstrings, but in my mind I can just say that Heartstrings was Lyra's birth name. She didn't like that name so when she made friends that's the nickname she decided on. I think that is the perfect way to look at it.

Someone suggested on the wiki that they at least mention that until we learned that her canon name was "Heartstrings", she was known as Lyra by the fanbase.

The simplest "solution" I see it as is to just see it as her "full name". Like Pinkie Pie is "Pinkamina Diane Pie", thus the conclusion would be that all Ponies get a nickname of sorts much likely. Since otherwise it wouldn't make to much sense how everypony has a "RP name" (aka: A name that reflects their personality or skills before they even knew what they had)

The funny/obnoxious thing? The word Lyra is banned and you can't actually put it on the page. You just get a message about how it's never used on the show, and is just a common misconception. We can't even make a note that she used to be called that, much less apply the fanon name as a nickname in the title. I mean really, who runs that place?

Now THAT is messed up. I was arguing that a note about the previously used fan name, not an endorsement but just a note, would be a good compromise. Whether the people running that wiki like it or not, unofficial fan works draw from it and fan work is a huge part of the fan community. To ignore the name used extensively before an "official" name surfaced is ignorant; after all, they were used on the wiki page with "official" information, so to ignore their existence afterwards is foolish. People will go to that page for info, see the name change with no explanation, and end up confused. Heck, they may even DOUBT the wiki's accuracy.

That reminds me a short story written by Henryk Sienkiewicz, "Bartek the Victor". The thing happens in Poland under German partition. Bartek SΕowik is conscripted into the army. The German clerk has no idea how to spell that name, but it sounds to him a little like "CzΕowiek" (pol. Human). So he writes in the documents "Mensch". In the end, what's Bartek's real name?

Yes I wrote it, it's the kind of thing that happens when I find myself with time on my hands and amusement on my mind over how many people in the MLP fanbase can't tell "canon as in written in stone" from "cannon as in the siege or naval weapon."
It's silly, because as a professional author, I've hated fanfiction for a long time, only to be turned around on it by Fallout Equestria. Yes. Crossover fanfiction with My Little Pony. I'd be ashamed of myself if the story wasn't such good reading. And I'm glad you like my doggerel. I do fiction, not poetry, so every time I try to do anything poetic or poetry-adjacent, it's usually terrible.

Haha thanks. I wrote that stupid thing when someone was griping about how Fallout Equestria couldn't possibly mesh with canon, and I postulated that it didn't matter whether it meshed or not, it was still awesome.
Your kind words (and image thingy) are appreciated, but hardly necessary. If I was any good at poetry (so to speak), I would have gotten some published already. I'll just stick with doing fiction, since I'm apparently decent at that, at least.

You make a valid point. Anyone who exploits themes or controversies in a fandom to help reach their audience is cheating a little bit. I am certainly guilty of that in this comic.
