Can't believe how unreasonable the admin(s) of the wiki are being about this. Obviously, most people prefer the name Lyra to Heartstrings. On most wikis I've seen, 'alternate' names will be listed under the main names. That's what they should do with this, IMO. So maybe we can't find a source. WHO CARES.
The thing is, the toy department of Hasbro is completely separated from the show department (A.K.A. The Hub), and even Jayson Thiessen doesn't know what's going on in the toy department. I bet you 100000000 bits that Lyra is still labeled 'Lyra' in her art folder at the studio, and Carrot Top is still Carrot Top (if they name the files for the BG ponies that is). In fact, someone should ask a crew member about that. I think thatwould be a good enough 'source'.
Sorry about the rant....I don't think the names matter TOO much, but the fact that the admin(s) on this particular wiki are being so unreasonable is not only crazy, but sort of a slap in the face to the whole fandom I think.

The admins aren't the ones being unreasonable. The MLP:FIM wiki is for official info only, be it from the show or the toys. Like it or not Lyra is a name created by the fans (on 4chan of all places) and the character has never been named on screen. So until she is named Lyra on screen, the wiki has to use Heartstrings as the official name.

Lyra was always a bit of a weird name if you overthought it. How did her parents know she was going to like the lyre? Or maybe they didn't and she liked it because it was like her name and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy? Usually the names are just general enough they could fit into other things as well.
Heartstrings is a lovely name, and Lyra could make a fine nickname. Lyra Heartstrings is also pretty. Regardless of how anyone feels, from this point on she will be referred to as both and probably the combination. Unless Word of God (Hasbro/Faust/Studio B) retracts it and explains it was a different pony with a lyre cutie mark. (Which was a fairly common one in season one with background ponies.)

I just rationalize it by saying Heartstrings is her last name, thereby making her full name "Lyra Heartstrings". Either that or Lyra is her nickname. (Or perhaps Bonbon's pet name for her?

Well that's just hilarious. Trollestia strikes again.
For those of you who don't know, at the time I wrote this review, Lyra's name was changed to Heartstrings in the MLP:FiM wiki. The reason for this is because Hasbro released a toy identical to Lyra named Heartstrings, and now the name is regarded as cannon despite some people who object to the change. Although the name Lyra is a fanon creation, whether or not Heartstrings can be considered her cannon name is debatable because (as far as I know) the name Heartstrings is a name given to the toy by Hasbro, not Studio B. My advice, just call her whatever you want. Some say Derpy, others say Ditzy Doo.

Lyra is the background pony, Heartstrings is the blind bag pony. I like the mane Heartstrings, but I'm calling the background pony Lyra because that's the name everyone likes/is used to.

You have my support Lyra!! As far as I'm concerned, MLP:FiM the show does most emphatically NOT equal Hasbro the toy company. Yes they may have been the progenitors, but I pledge allegiance to Faust, Thiessen, Wooten, and the rest of the animation department. Lyra is Lyra, until she is named on the show, and I for one hope she isn't. Everyone is clamoring for the background characters to get more recognition. I don't think this is a good idea. Because once we commit to something and our conceptions turn false, this kind of chaos starts. Wasn't it said once by one of the animators (Sibsy by name I believe) that "We don't name the background characters, you guys do"? It needs to stay that way. Now, we as fans have accepted the changes with good grace for the most part and have offered up a very agreeable compromise, but I most sincerely hope that Hasbro leaves the background characters alone.
