Description
One of my growing numbers of papers I'm handing out to my manga class. This one works on it's own, so I thought I'd show it off.
Some day I'll collect all my papers to a couple of gigantic tutorials. Once I got all the basic subjects covered, that is.

Very, very interesting. And how do you achieve line variation? I use various different pens for my art, and yet I don't seem to achieve line variation

With different pens you can change pens on the different lines. Or draw twice on the same line to get it ticker.
The super easy solution for truly organic lines are however brushes or pen tips of the very old fashioned kind.

I have 2 brush pens (and 1 doesn't work that awesomely XP) and I can't seem to get the effect you get. If you happen to be able to do a step for step tutorial, I'd be veeeeeery interested XP

I use micron pigment ink pens... They come in different brands, and different sizes. I usually go with the sizes 03 and 08, but they go all the way down to 01 or 0,05...
Using pens like that might make the real difference.

I normally use 0.05 or 0.03 for the eyes, nose, lips and tiny details, 0.1 for the skin, 0.3 for the clothes and 0.5 for the hair... and still it doesn't seem like I use different line sizes

Second picture here from the bottom shows the difference between my 03 and 08 lines pretty good. [link] Just compare the tail with the other lines.

Sounds like your tips either all are worn down to something thick, or you have a very light hand, then.
Also, like said, try drawing on top of your own lines for even thicker effect.

Well, Iri's hair are obviously made with clearly thicker lines than the rest.

I press very hard with mine. I basically can't use pens smaller than 03. And i tend to go through my 03s pretty fast. X)

I broke a 0.05 once XD That sooo sucked
