Description
"Skye, could you please stop messing around and get in the box? I'm trying to adjust the lighting.""What's with this costume? And this isn't even one of the illusions we're working on!"
"It's a test render for the lights. Skye, please. I've been at this all day, and just can't get them right."
"Well, of course not- your spotlight's luminous flux is set way too low. You can light a living room with it, but not a full stage."
"I should have known that. How can you tell?"
"Because I'm staring right at it and not going blind. Plus, I've been running the light board, remember? I'm the one who programmed the last one not to overload the circuit breakers once you added that new spotlight. Look, grab your old theater textbook or head on over to Wikipedia and review three-point lighting and the McCandless Method of stage lighting while this thing renders, then let me get out and get some damn sleep already. After that, grab some more spotlights, bump up the lumens, and get Robyn or someone else to help you focus and adjust them. Call me back when you're done and maybe then I'll let you impale me."
... I think I need more sleep. The assistants have started talking to me instead of the Magician. At least I'm making progress. Now that I think I've got the lights figured out, shouldn't be much longer before I'm in full render mode again. (Maybe I'll treat myself to some hair objects from the DAZ store to celebrate.)

Let her leave? Why not just impale her and let her sleep in the prop? Some mild overnight acupuncture could really help her relax, and you still have a figure to test lighting out on.

I could just have the Magician mannequin her again... Just might do that, will give me a good point of reference between these and the new settings (using four point lighting- I threw some dim footlights in, plus a little backdrop lighting that doesn't quite count as a separate point.) Have a hunch I'll be tweaking it for a long time, but I think the updated settings are a good general starting point.

Wish I'd found this a few hours ago:

I underestimated lumens, even on the second render, by at least a factor of ten. This thing will be really helpful when I get around to setting up the bigger theatre set.
