Description
After days of inking it's FINALLY done. The lineart that is, IMO, of course. Crits are naturally welcome as always.Note that this is the SMALL version, being 30% of the size I inked at. Meaning there IS a high res version of 2500 by 3500 which I want to be able to be printed on a poster format once it's colored, therefore all colorists who want to take a stab at this please contact me and I'll gladly provide you with the image (the high res is pretty big at about 1 Mb), so be sure you have enough room if you want to use obtain it by e-mail.
Anyway, why this sorta crossover image? Well, as TF Galaxy Force (aka TF Cybertron) is taking over from TF Energon (was about time too), also, if TF Cybertron (the US variant of Galaxy Force) is going to be a follow up to Energon, all things related and remembering of Energon *cough*Kickerandfriends*cough* must be vanquished and/or discarded swiftly and if needed with some excessive force.
Here we see Energon Strongarm lying at the feet of his conquerer, Galaxy Force (TF Cybertron) Starscream, also in the air we have En. Skyblast being hunted down by GF Thundercracker.
>.>
<.<
PS: I came up with numerous titles for this image
"Will anyone else attempt to fill his shoes?"
"The Destrons strikes back"
"TF Energon is dead, all hail the new line!"

well it'd be a reference picture for a custom action figure of starscream but i found one thats of the actual figure (the one i customized is from energon not cybertron)

I think you did a very good amount of detail, this one looks way better thant those pics where they randomly split the armors in several parts. I think you did a great job on the damage, I only thing the guy's tires should be damaged as well

Quietstorm [2005-03-16 19:47:15 +0000 UTC]
So much intricate detail, I'm speechless. The only thing that I can really see that this piece needs from an "advanced critique" is well--light and shadow. I hear this all the time from my critics, and I have many of them, but it's true. In order for things to appear as they are in reality, they need light and shadow. You don't really have too many dark areas in the piece. Sure there are some blacks placed sparsely here and there, but for the piece to truly pop out you need to have more darks. Starscream definitely needs a shadow. Even if it's a rough shadow. You could put some solid rocky intrusion shadows as well on the background's rocks.
Nowadays, I'm certain that coloring tends to fix these "light and shadow" problems, but that is a lot of work for a colourist. Not only do they have to compose the palette for the colouring, but they now have to read your mind and place the values (lights/darks) of those colours. I've heard it many times from comic pros and editors when I show them my work, and they always tell me, light and shadow is IMPERATIVE. It saves headaches for the inker (if you have another person ink) and it saves headaches for the colourists as well. One editor actually told me that all of his inkers and colourists would send back my work if I didn't put in my shadows. Enough about that. I love the work, and I think it needs to be coloured. Great details, phenomenal likeness of GF-SS. Stellar piece.
Word.

You're not the only one to complain about the linewidths though, the difference in thickness is better visible at the greater detail level, ah well, I might put out a corrected version with thicker lines later.

hansime In reply to shumworld [2005-03-14 17:36:37 +0000 UTC]
thanks, it has two linewidths though, I didn't want to use anything thicker this time (it just takes way too much time and I'm lazy Plus I don't want them to stand out from the background even more/too much as in the end they are a part of the surroundings in it's totality
)
Best excuse I've come up with yet.
But seriously, I didn't want to make them stand out too much, some coloring, even flats, should make it very easily to distinguish the lot.

Nice crisp lines...is the inking done on a tablet? or just with mouse on PS?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
hansime In reply to AcidWing [2005-03-14 11:42:55 +0000 UTC]
I used the bezier curve in Paint Shop Pro (I never really use Photoshop) to trace and where needed (where not?) improve the sketch. Mainly used the mouse for that as it's easier to do the curve tangents that way. I used my tablet for the curly little battle damage thingies, the majoirty of the background including the clouds and some other things. But most really smooth stuff is done with the mouse as it to me still offers a little bit more control.

hansime In reply to NuclearConvoy [2005-03-15 23:12:38 +0000 UTC]
Heh. Same here, the transition Hasbro planned from Energon to Cybertron doesn't make sense, however, I think Hasbro just wants to milk out the Energon peops by trying to tie them to the line before hand. It's weird though, as what I've seen from Galaxy Force (up to eps. 8 or 9?) doesn't relate to TF Energon in any way. There's some other problems with it too (like why the hell are they scanning altmodes if their botformat doesn't change one bit? ie. they already WERE those altmodes... Oh well, unfortunately for now Transformers won't reach the Macross level on the well thought out story part, I fear they'll be treated more or less as the DBZ/Power Ranger robots in Galaxy Force. As if Kicker's hairdo and the weird, non physically possible uber attacks from TF Energon - resonance from RiD? - like tornado spin thingies an all - wern't enough.)
*cringe*
Must be me though.

Masshypnosis.
>.>
<.<
They'll use Keychain G1 Autobots to bring you in to trance, then, after you've bought the whole line, they wipe your memory of buying the stuff by hypnotising you again. Then they make you purchase more lines until you're broke.
They figured this stuff out several years back (up to a decade) already. >.>

I think it doesn't take too much massaging to get Cybertron (or at least Galaxy Force) onto the end of Energon. Oh, it's not perfect, but I think it can be done. (After all, the comics were going to flow straight on anyway.)
Anyway, really here to talk about your picture. Great! Makes me all the gladder I've ordered the GF Starscream figure. And if you're still open to colourists, I'd like to have a go. You say there's a higher-res one that you want colourists to go at? (I can't promise speed or perfection, but I'd love doing it anyway.)
