Description Part [1]   Part [2]   Part [3]  Part [4]

i've been working in film, t.v., and gaming for over twenty years now.  i thought i might pass along some of the knowledge i've picked up along the way to help others make better CG.  so over the next few weeks, i'm going to go over the steps and methodology i use to make a CG animated scene; the next shot in my "Too Late" sequence.

to start, the most misunderstood aspect of CGI, the camera.

next up: Part Two, The Storyboard

Hello harroldsheep

I really appreciate you making these. A lot of people, especially newbies, could use this information. It is clearly presented and well thought out.

My only criticism is that the image of your rig is not quite clear at first glance what is going on. Maybe make a second drawing that is color coded with small explanations next to it to make it clear what exactly is being modified from the original rig.

Also, since you are talking about cinematography, I would also mention lighting. I understand that its a big subject, so maybe this could be cinematography part 1, with the lighting portion part of cinematography part 2. Its not essential, just a suggestion to keep things organized.

Otherwise I like what you are doing. I look forward to the other lessons. Keep it up.

Camera work always bugged me on cheap and older video games. It totally takes you out of the moment. Hopefully this knowledge gets into the minds of the designers and cinematographers that really need it. Looking forward to part 2.

I have been into CG for decades (sadly not professionally) and this one blindingly simple truth eluded me.
What you say makes total sense. Now to try and translate that into Poser.

Thank you for posting this. Seriously, you have given me something to think deeply on.

Looking forward to the other parts of this tutorial/series.
