Description
tumblrI've seen a bunch of fan-versions of starfleet officers in different religious and other alternation to the uniforms, but i haven't seen Jews, so i tried to design a few ideas for possible uniforms...i'm not an expert in religious Jewish clothing but i tried my best.
Blue, science/medical- looser version, long simple skirt and a loose head-cover.
gold, security/engineering- head cover is tighter. the "pants"(a skirt the closes into 2 sort of legs, there weird and comfy) are short and loose- for running and stuff.
red, command- the long version of the "pants", the head cover is simple and tight. in some parts of the Jewish religion it's OK to see some of the hair with the cover.
BTW- only married women have head covers, so there all actually married. yey.

Interesting and original take on Starfleet uniforms.
As far as these uniforms catching on machinery, they don't look any more dangerous than, say, Beverly Crusher's lab coat or Worf's Klingon shoulder sash. Certainly the covered hair is safer than the loose flowing hairstyles that some Starfleet women wear.

thank you
that's what i was thinking. i'm an architecture student and we work a lot with heavy machinery to build models and stuff, and about half of the students are religious girls, and they do pretty well with even looser clothing

i wanted it to match the color of the pants and the job-color but it's a possibility ^^ maybe a fashion choice of sorts

Are you going to make a mirror version of them?

Militarily speaking, and yes, Starfleet is a military force, they wouldn't allow uniforms that differ from other uniforms styles so significantly.
Uniforms are meant to give a sense of Community and Unity between those who wear them. And there's also a functionality aspect to the uniform as well. Every person who wears a uniform is expected to fight when the situation arises, even science officers. Baggy clothing and dresses would hinder that ability and could even get that officer killed.
Then you have to take into account things like fires and the like from console explosions and enemy weapons. More fabric = greater chance of it catching fire.
Obvious exceptions would be Troi's counsellor uniform in a few seasons of TNG, but even that was done away with in the later seasons.
Other exceptions would be Nog's head-dress, Ro's earring, Worf's Baldric, etc. But other than those minor things, the uniforms were the same as everyone else's.
I would think that a limited head cover would be acceptable, but not like the long one the science officer is wearing, for the reasons above, and they would be required to wear the same standard uniform.

i agree 100%
but we don;t see much about very religious groups that have very strict dressing codes- we mostly see religions that have required jewelry or something. in Israel Jewish girls are allowed to wear a skirt instead of pants. also in some factions they have to cover their hair when married- so the long one is for the jobs outside of combat areas, say in research facilities or something. and there always the deal with modesty- that' why i used those pants- easier to run in and work and steal modest enough for the religious girls.
idk, this is just an idea and first draft sort of, but the original uniform will never be OK by my religious friends...
also- what about fabrics that will not catch on fire as much? it's the future, i'm sure they have something like that.

Nothing can ever be made 'fireproof', only fire retardant, and even then only to a certain extent. Everything burns when it reaches the right temperature.
The thing about modesty though is that Militaries don't care about it, even the Israeli Defense Force makes female members wear the same Uniforms as men (although they do make exceptions for minimal head dress).
If you're that hung up on it to that extent that a uniform like you designed would be preferred, chances are you probably wouldn't want to sign up in the first place, because they wouldn't be available. Like I said: The Uniform is intended to form a sense of community, unity and comradery among those that wear it. It also serves a practical purpose, allowing the wearer to perform their job with minimal hindrance or danger to themselves.
One thing I didn't mention is that baggy clothing can get caught on things, like machinery, and that can cause serious injury or death, and guess what: A starship is a big machine!

first of all- this is just a fun idea, something i did after seeing something similar for other religions on the internet, so don't take it too seriously.
and again- the Israeli army is giving the option of skirts for any girl who's not in a combat unit- i know, i served with those girls in the Israeli army.
the girls i worked and work with have no problem working with their head-covers- they just collect them. it's much better than the long hair that starfleet allows fir some reason.
i don't see any point in the over Tight clothing star fleet makes everyone wear. no army in the world makes anyone, except for maybe soldiers who go underwater or something, wear that kind of thing- it's not comfortable. It a sci-fi trope that makes the actors look good.
the military cares a lot about modesty, at least in the real world. that's why all the army's have baggy clothing, with lot's of buttons you have to keep close at all times and you have to wear an undershirt, and big boots and stuff- looking respectful is a very important part. and feeling mostly comfortable in your uniform.
any way, this is just a passing idea. and the head covers can easily be replaced with wigs. i just went with this for the heck of it.

This is certainly one of the more unusual Star Trek fanarts I've seen but I like it whenever people come up with ideas like this one
And it looks good!
BTW: Don't wear married orthodox women in Judaism also wigs?

thank you! i saw a bunch of this but never saw any for Jewish ladies so...
yes, but i wanted to tackle the head-cover first, wig is hair and from what i read in the manual- starfleet has no problem with it. I'm planning on doing another one without covers and with wigs anyway
