Description I felt the humans were a little bit outclassed by the Whales and Aliens. So they now have their own exosuit. I wanted it to look less sleek then the alien ones so it give a nice contrast.
EDIT: Added protective glass to the cockpit.

I have two questions... How thick is the armor, and why isn't the cockpit armored?

The armor is thick enough to stop bullets I guess. As for the cockpit I wanted it to be open to show more of the pilot and also to give the suit a little bit of a construction vehicle look. So the cockpit was mostly inspired by forklifters or similar vehicles. It was a stylistic choice that might not make a lot of sense but then again this is an IP where psychic whales fight in giant power suits. I might give the cockpit some armored glass to make it look a little bit more protected...

Well. As long as a guy, on foot, with a handgun, cannot take down what is supposed to be a mech... Armored glass or some sort of anti-laser refractive material at the VERY least would be a good start.
