Description
So here is a little something I made for a friend. It's a falchion, a fierced weapon in the middle ages, used successfully against plate armor. It's basically a combination of a sword and an axe, ideal for bashing helmets and such
The sword is around 1,5 kg.
Its full length is 76 cm, the blade is 4,5 cm wide and 6-7 mm thick. The blades spine has a false edge from the tip all the way to the crossguard, and it has two blood grooves (one on each side) This made the sword surpriseingly light.
The balance point is 8 cm in front of the crossguard. The crossguard is 15 cm long. The grip is 11 cm long. The pommel is 5,5 cm long.
The handle is constructed like so: it is full tang, and there are two iron plates riveted to it, for balance. above the iron plates are two pieces of leather (one on each side), so the rivets don't bother the hand. All this stuff is wrapped around with an aprox. 1,5 meter long brown leather strip.
The sheath is hand sewn from 3-4 mm veg. tanned cow hide, with iron accessories.
The blade is forged from spring steel, the other stuff are wrought iron.
Hope you like this little baby

I hate to be "that guy", but the "blood grooves" are actually called fullers.
Not trying to come off as a prick, so I apologize if it sounds/looks that way.

It doesn't matter what they are called, as long as you know what they are.

Glad you like it, Sir! Swords are a little bit more dear to me too, maybe because I make so few. I remember each and every one of of them

Your works are all beautiful. I tried making a sword once too. I made a katana looking like one. But I didnt have the right materials or the instruments to forge it so I only cut it out from scrap iron, shaped it with portable grinder and polished with sand paper. It doesnt look so good and its a bit heavy but I use it for practice sometimes

Well, Roman soldiers were given replicas of their equipment that have double the weight of the original so they could react faster when fighting.

That's a great idea! It's always good to have a decent sword around, in case of a zombie apocalypse and such

How do you secure the leather strip? I'm still trying to figure it out

Well, it's very easy to make, but hard to explain. The ends are hidden under the itself.
