This massive mushroom monster and its underlings are the final remnants of magic left on this forest. The magic was embedded within the forest by some sorcerers that were banished from the nearby city due to their dark arts. This area was once a very important trade route for the city and once the magic became active many vicious creatures began to flourish from the forest to attack the city. Over the years many of the creatures were defeated by bounty hunters and city officials but this mystical mushroom remains. Due to its size and poisonous spores that corrode even steel, this creature has been nearly impossible to defeat.
Here you can see some brave/foolish soldiers attacking its limbs, the mage is a third party trying to rescue the warriors from their doom but it seems this is a losing battle for them.

Really nice! I love the concept of a giant "boss" mushroom, and I'm always a bit of a sucker for fantasy paintings like this. Really good job you've done here, keep up the good work!

This has a lot of potential to it and it is an awesome subject matter to paint. There are some things that unfortunately make it a bit lackluster but it's nothing that can't be fixed for next time.
When I look at this what I notice is that there is a lot of strong dynamic light since there are bright light sources all around coming from the mushrooms. However, even with that It just doesn't seem like there's enough accompanying values to suggest it's as bright as it is. There are a lot of areas where the strong directional lighting of the mushrooms catches onto the planes facing it and give them strong rim lights but in some areas it's a bit inconsistent. Another thing to notice is with these light sources the darks on the shadow sides don't seem to be dark enough. Down near the bottom where the smaller mushrooms are the darks and lights seem to do fine but up at the bigger mushroom his underside just doesn't seem to be catching enough light and casting enough shadow to allow him to be that center of attention.
I watched the youtube link of the process and noticed when it was in its grayscale form at the beginning the values were much better than near the end before it was colorized. Mostly because the lights coming from the mouths of the mushrooms weren't as bright as they are now which caused the surrounding planes to be more correct in their lighting as opposed to when they were amped up.
As a final thought to leave off with it took me a while to notice the various characters in the picture fighting these mushrooms. Mostly due to their size but mainly to do with the girl on the left not really being a point of interest. While it's fine for her not to be the main attraction I can't help but feel the burning tentacle that's floating above her is so bright in comparison that it completely averts your gaze from the girl and ultimately gives off a false sense of proportion for the mushroom creatures.

fair points, especially on the big mushroom not getting enough light on his underside. Thank you for taking your time to comment on this, I'll keep those pointers in mind for the next time!
