Description Here it is, for
This took hours... hours and hours, 2 shimeji pictures, and a crapload of screenshots. Close to 50 I think, including what didn't make it in.
This is freaking long, isn't it?

Edit: I added a base to draw a shimeji off of as the download button. Feel free to play around with it, it's a .psd file.

Hey I have a question. Does the pixel size HAVE to be 128x128? My character is too big to fit into that tiny pixel resolution.

Yeah, when I tried getting it in higher resolution it half fell off of the ground

Do you happen to know anything about the programming shimejis? or who I could ask a programming question?

What do you need help with specifically?

I made my own shimeji, but the character I used has two different eye colours. I've been trying to figure out a way to program different left and right facing animations so the eyes stay consistent

izayaoralhara In reply to emmathornley [2017-06-03 05:15:37 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. Well, you could try paying attention to the way the shimeji's standing, and if it's facing left, use one color, and if it's facing right, use the other.

I need to find a way to deactivate the lookright function in the code. I even tried removing code from the image pairing that dictates that the right image is a flipped version of the left

I've created all the different left and right images I need but it's about a 50/50 chance the shimeji uses the correct image set

make sure youre trying to use them right. most shimejis have tutorials on how to make them work in the artist notes, so check for instructions there

Thanks for the tutorial, it's great! Just one question for when you are drawing the characters, would it still work if I drew them on a different art thing that still has layers and all that, and basically works the same, but on my iPad? What I'm saying is when you save them to your iPad, you can't name the file or anything, so if I made the pictures on my iPad which are transparent and all, then uploaded them to my computer and renamed them then, would it still work?

yeah uhm sorry to say but your base SUCKS. it doesn't include feet, it's to short and stubby, and I actually have to shade and color the skin shit. so yeah, don't download the base to all you hopefuls.

HetaGarnet In reply to Grumpyre [2015-02-20 03:50:03 +0000 UTC]

that's literally the point of the whole thing. it's a basic sketch outline that you work on top of, it's not meant to be colored in like some shitty anime base on MS paint

well, I expected something a little clearer. this was quite a while ago, and I have found something that works a little better. Sorry for the trouble .u.

That's good to hear! But on that note, I really have to recommend you don't draw over bases in the future it will do nothing to help your art skills grow. even if your own drawings look bad at first, they won't get better without effort!

holy cow that's an awesome shimeji!! I can't vouch for the too big thing since I've only ever made small ones, I don't have experience with it it almost seems like it'd be a glitch in the programming or something as opposed to the picture, since in my experience it hasnt mattered what the picture was, it just took it along for the ride. unfortunately im no programmer... have you tried finding a different shimeji file and moving the pictures to that just to test it out?

Question, how do you save it?(like save it as a .png,.jpeg,ect. please ignore my lack of file knowledge XD) Also where can you download it to the internet other than mediafire cause my computer can't pull up anything mediafire related without LOTS of trouble

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HetaGarnet In reply to BlueVampireQueen [2014-09-23 16:15:08 +0000 UTC]

pictures are always saved as .png and everything goes into the folders, which can be put as a whole into either a .zip or a .rar file when you want to put it online. There's a lot of different sites like I think you can use megaupload or dropbox... I dont think google drive lets you put them on there though because they have .exe files in them

Can you make a couple Shimeji? So it would have 2 characters instead of just one?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HetaGarnet In reply to RoMaNoRuLe [2014-09-23 01:11:29 +0000 UTC]

you can make whatever you're willing to try. it's just harder to make it work visually. you can't make 2 separate shimejis interact if that's what you mean, unless you learn to program it. but plenty of people have drawn 2 together in one.

I have to get it from a screenshot.

This scares me.

This tutorial is amazing! Β However I have one question... what happens when your shimeji drawing is super small when put into 128x128 pixels? Β Mine is definitely not the size of your Romano.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HetaGarnet In reply to Calrion [2014-08-31 14:44:14 +0000 UTC]

well, if it's small the only thing that's going to happen is it's going to be smaller. Honestly, it doesn't matter how big or small you make it, it's just standard for them to be 128x128.
however you might want to go back in and check to be certain you are changing it to pixels and perhaps not something else?
