Description Well, I noticed that there wasn't a tutorial for making Shimejis with the Gimp Program. And it is a little different than using Photoshop... Just some extra steps that you need to be weary of.

But yeah. I do hope that this helps becuase I remember I was talking to a user who was a little frustraited that they had to go by Photoshop tutorials for making a Shimeji.

For those of you who do not know what a Shimeji is, it is a Japanese program that allows little chibis to walk around your screen and give you hell by reproducing like crazy and throwing your conversations out of the screen. They are a lot of fun. here is the link for the English version, in which you can also get a Link Shimeji thrown into the pack.

I did not make the England base. It is not mine. It's 's work. You can download England here:

If you wish to download GIMP click on the link below. It's free.

I have this tutorial on youtube, in case if there is any confusion. I personally like having somebody explaining and me seeing at times when I am learning something... So here's the link:

I don't get it, so when you open the Png image the shimeji will appear?

The-Lovely-Fagot In reply to TheCannibalWolf [2012-10-08 06:11:53 +0000 UTC]

When you open up the image on GIMP, it will appear, then you just go and draw over it. And save over the file. Then if you open the shimeji program, the image that you replaced will appear.

I have a question...

I already know how to go about doing it. The problem is, I would like my character to do his own actions... instead of the actions of the shimeji that's being used as a base. My question is how many from are giving to each action? I would like to know how many the program uses so that I can make it more original.

Ex: Walking uses 3 frames. One for each foot and one for standing.

I would like to know how many are used for multiplying, eating, sitting, reading, falling, holding the screen etc... (anything that isn't walking essentially.)

It is possible, but you have to know how to do coding.

Can you make Shimeji's in only MS Paint?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Lovely-Fagot In reply to princess-mia62 [2011-12-25 21:45:50 +0000 UTC]

It's not recommended to make them on only MS Paint. The reason for that is that you want them to be png and Paint, although you can save them as a png, will end up having a white background around the drawing and when you have it move around on your computer screen, you will not be able to see your background. Only the white background behind the shimeji. To remove that white background, you NEED a program like PS, GIMP, Sai, ext. that can remove the unwanted background.

Not that I know of. And I doubt it. But Gimp is a free program, so you can download that.

no problem. Gimp works very similarly to photoshop in some ways. But I will say this, if you are using a Mac, then Gimp does not work that well. You have to double click EVERYTHING just to make it work right and it's very frustrating.

everything it said in your guide. downloaded the shimeji I wanted, made all the extra layers, did the lineart, colored it in, did the visible thing, then saved it, but it didn't do anything.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Lovely-Fagot In reply to melispanda [2011-11-06 21:13:11 +0000 UTC]

You may have downloaded the shimeji wrong. Or the shimeji you used had something wonky when it opened. I would suggest downloading the Iggy shimeji I used (make an extra copy of him if you want), take all of the images you have made and replace them with the Hetalia shimeji I told you to save. Then open that particular shimeji and it SHOULD work.

Download a working shimeji and copy it. Take the copied one and work with the images there. When you are done, open the one you made and it SHOULD work like a normal shimeji.

yay i just got GIMP was wanting t make my own lil shimeji, but i still have some Qs:
sooo i first tried to edit the Denmark download using MicrosoftPaint(i know it sucks so bad), then i got gimp and tried using that, but the background is still white. I also tried just simply first opening my Paint-edited one, then made a new transparent layer, then sort of got it all transparentyish(by randomly clicking things ), but i still have no idea what in Hell i'm doing here(am horrible with tech stuffs ) soooo ya i need help making it look transparent for the background without having to go back and y'know, trace over every lil line, maybe instead just simply change the background? That's the only thing white and it makes my lil shime lok like inside a white box of doom!!! plz help! iluvyoulongtimeifyouhelp~!
