Description

Renegade was cold. Painfully cold. Mind numbingly cold.

His body shook like a late autumn leaf in the wind, his thick coat doing nothing to warm him. The quivering of his muscles brought more pain, but he couldn't stop his natural reaction to the cold. He wished he would just die already. Unless this cold, painful darkness was death. If it was, then he wished to return to the living. A soft groan rumbled through his chest and a muzzle ghosted across his forehead. A feminine voice murmured comforts to him, and under her guidance, he slipped back into the darkness.

Time was skewed in this fever like state. He remembered flashes of gold and little else. When he finally came to, it was Aikane who greeted him. Her face was wrought with worry and grief, her blue and brown eyes staring into his own hopelessly. She said nothing; she simply pressed her body against his, lending her warmth in silence. Ren was too tired and much too grateful to complain.

Instead, his eyes looked to a figure standing a ways off. A gold and white mare stood guard over them, her face turned away as she scanned the clearing. Slowly, she turned her head back and locked eyes with him. Her eyes were a brilliant gold and Ren was overcome with a sense of deja vu. It took his mind a few moments to register that this mare had been the one to care for him.

"You're finally awake," she stated, stepping closer. "For awhile there, I didn't think you were ever going to rejoin us," She hummed, checking him over. She brushed her nose across his side and he flinched, pain flaring in his sides from his cuts. "You're lucky to have lived. Those injuries alone could have killed you. Not to mention almost drowning..."

"How did you find us?" He asked, his voice raspy and weak. She sighed in amusement.

"Luck? Or fate? I actually found her first. She was the one who dragged you out of that lake, y'know," Renegade glanced at Aikane who was determined to not meet his gaze. She still had a haunted look about her, and she seemed to shrink into herself as she became the subject of conversation. Renegade grunted, starting to gather his hooves underneath him when-

"Be still,"

"I'm fine-"

"I said be still," The mare ordered with such a firmness that he didn't dare argue. He glanced up at her, flinching away from the fire in her molten gold gaze. The rising sun illuminated her coat, casting rays the glowed behind her head. He was entirely convinced this was some divine being come to earth. He had to be dreaming.

"What's your name?" he croaked.

"Arwyn. Enough talking, the both of you need rest," She said, voice firm and gentle all the same.
