Description
Sequel to this, , but prequel to this, , it's Mairenn again! And that other woman I kinda forgot about for the last year. Calling her Summer now. I think it works out nicely that she's another surfer that Mairenn knows, and that maybe she loves running in that sort of crew.Anyway, story time:
"I know I've been saying this a lot, but, seriously, thanks for coming out with me today Mairenn." The tanned blond stopped, and cupped her hands underneath her gravid middle, giving it a slight hoist. "I think by a week from now I'll probably be stuck in bed until these little guys come out. This'll be my last chance to kick back for a long time."
"Heh," giggled the elf girl lamely, "I'm glad I can help." She forced herself to smile, and to ignore the pressing reality.
"You're really lucky you're full term. You'll be able to walk like a normal person soon, for one."
"Full term, yeah." Mairenn sighed shakily. "Can't say I noticed." She forced herself to focus once again. "But geez Summer, you're already bigger than me!"
Summer rolled her eyes. "I've noticed."
"But, seriously. I'm this big and I'm just having twins. Exactly how many are you having?"
The blonde surfer shrugged. "Too many." When she saw the hint of a frown on her friend's face, she added, "Okay okay, it's triplets. Got a month left of lugging them around, too."
Mairenn smiled. She knew Summer hated being kept off her board for so long, surfing was in her blood after all, but she was happy that she wasn't alone among her circle of friends when it came to starting a family. And as much as Summer complained, deep down Mairenn was sure she was just as happy as she was about her own soon-to-be born children.
And since Summer was a surfer, and Mairenn's husband used to be as well, she was especially looking forward to bringing all the kids down here in the future and getting them into riding the waves together.
Before she could muse any further, a twinge of pain shot through her back. She hunched forward, instinctively pressing the heel of her palm into the small of her back. "A-ah," she moaned, quietly as she could. Another contraction. Figures this would happen the very day Danny tried to tell her to take it easy and stay home. The elvish girl wasn't too excited about the "told you so"-ing she was bound to get later.
Summer cocked an eyebrow towards her. "Hey, Mai, you okay? I thought I'd be the one having trouble today."
The dark haired elf, still double over, forced another smile. "Ah, I'm good, honest! Just another...uh, Braxton something or other. Heh heh." Her uneasy laughter was convincing no one.
Summer shrugged her shoulders and gave her middle a gentle rub. She could tell something was wrong, but she knew just how stubborn Mairenn could be and decided not to push it. "Well, okay. Hey, I'm kinda tired from all this walking, so why don't we lay out the towels and have a bit of a sunbath for a while?" She hoped it would help the elven girl a little, and equally hoped she wouldn't realize why she was suggesting it for real.
"S-sure," the elf replied through unconciously gritted teeth. "Lead the way, I just need a moment to...uh..." Cringing, she trailed off and completely forgot what she was gonna say.
As Summer went on ahead to set up, Mairenn muttered quietly to herself "What's the worst that can happen, Mairenn? Could be in labor miles from home on a public beach, I guess. Stupid, stupid, stupid- ow."

A very nice scene.
at-a-glance, even people with no knowledge of the characters can see what is going on and the situations.
Mairenn's expression is sweet and very well done, but one needs to read the story to understand why Summer looks so glumm-er (haha)
Mairenn's pose looks the best. well-balanced and natural, but summer's right thigh seems a little straight where it meets her backside. from the waist up, they are both well-proportioned (and obeying the laws of gravity well)
I am enthralled by the detail on the shorts, hair and Mairenns ears!
the background, although simple and not very over-the-top gives a clear impression of 'the world is there, but don't bother looking past these two'. it's clear what is there and the viewer can instantly look over it without being distracted from the important characters in-scene.
the shadows on the ground are good, but i wonder why the shadows end after a few feet from them.
If I were to suggest improvements... uuh... ok, struggling a little to suggest improvements... perhaps a little more definition to muscle where they stand? a faint curve of the calf?
honestly, other than Summer's right leg, i'm besotted with this and am very much stuck to suggest improvements that don't require massive style-changes haha.
Keep up the good work

I can't think of a single reason people have to be miserable all the time. No harm in having fun

Is Summer going to have branched story where she goes into labor?
