"Great. You've invented the world's first Hammock-That-Doesn't-Work."

To his credit, Max did his best to remember the princess' situation and not to look too hurt by this. "Sorry Monica, it's the best I can do with what we got. If anything you should at least be able to...I dunno, hang on to it as a support or something."

Monica let out a sigh. Of all the days for the doctor to fly the coop, why today? "Alright, alright. We're both under pressure. Let's just forget about it and do our best, right?"

The inventor nodded firmly in response.

"Oooh," moaned Monica, doubling over a bit. She stayed that way, breathing haggardly through her clenched teeth, for the better part of a minute. "Ow ow...okay...how long was that?"

Max quickly fumbled with his pocketwatch. "Uh, three minutes between, roughly."

Standing upright again, Monica took a few tentative steps around the workshop, trying to calm herself. It was proving impossible; while she knew they could do this, and that nothing but good should come of the result, she was still absolutely terrified of the immediate task at hand. Instinctively she found herself rubbing small circles on her stomach. In the previous months she found the motion to be rather soothing, and she was hoping it might still have the same effect now. Nevertheless, she found herself muttering wordlessly, nervously.

She felt thin, yet strong arms embrace her from behind, and the press of rough denim against her highly exposed back. Max pulled her into a tight hug, and though she was a bit taller than him, it had the much needed result of making her feel suddenly secure with her place in the world. "Everything's going to be fine, you'll see," he whispered, with a calmness that was betrayed only by the trembling she could feel through his whole body.

They were both scared but they were both together, and that's all that mattered, right?

She let out a long breath that she didn't realize she'd been holding. "Thank you." She gently pried his arms away for a moment and turned, being careful not to bowl him over with their problematic child-to-be. Placing her hands on the youth's shoulders she pulled him close. "We're in this together. Of course we'll be fine." She bent forward and gave him a small kiss on the lips. "I love you. So for that, I'll try out your failure hammock."

In other words no, I have no idea what that sheet-sling is supposed to be and I totally wrote myself into a corner by bringing up Max's invention skill.

Also I think that baby shrank a bit or something.
