I finally remembered that I had yet to watch the DLC for Assassin's Creed 3, The Tyranny of King Washington (summary here assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/… ) and when I watched the intense love I had for Connor's character came back and it hurt like the Dickens because dammit out of all the assassins Connor NEVER catches a break.
Anyway, in the DLC Connor experiences a vision from an Apple of Eden where his mother survived, he never left the village to become an assassin, George Washington obtained two pieces of Eden and became a tyrant king (which is ironic because in terms of Native American rights there was still tyranny), and there is a spiritual tree that when its virgin branches are picked and made into tea the person who drinks it gets spiritual powers from certain animals. For example, Connor gets the eagle, the wolf, and the bear over the course of the game

In the beginning of the game it is said by Ziio that Haytham Kenway, Connor's father, drank the tea before the game started and went mad because of it. I take that as a pretty big implication that Haytham stayed with Ziio in this universe, knew about Connor (not as Connor though because Connor never met Achilles and never got the name), and drank the tea in order to protect the two of them and by extension the village from Washington. Unfortunately Ziio also said that Haytham had died before the start of the game as well, but I thought it'd be interesting to interpret like the Haytham that Ziio loved "died" or something and that Haytham was actually still alive and decidedly unwell.
So that's where this comic came from. It honestly started out as 2 sketches and that was going to be it, but then I was like "these losers are fun to draw" and I couldn't stop even after it became 4 pages of heart-breaking nonsense (so if it seems a bit disconnected that's why because I had no idea where the hell I was going with it).

Why I do this to myself I don't know

Anyway, this was my first time drawing Haytham and I have to say I like drawing as much as I like him himself, which is almost as much as Connor. It was odd because I never noticed how much they actually look like each other until I had to distinguish between their facial structures and I was like "damn son. Literally."
