I get it he's not representing the blood and hate associated with that flag but the patriotism built on itΒ

No. The confederate flag is a flag of treason and aggression. The "stars and bars" version he's wearing was specifically reintroduced in the 60's to rally against civil rights. He's just not an evil guy who's willfully ignorant.Β

It sounds like you don't understand that the rebel flag was adopted in 60s as a symbol against civil rights. It is exclusively a flag of hate. Some people don't know that this was not the original flag Confederates used during the Civil War but rather has been recently socially engineered into a symbol of heritage. Now when Black people (who have said all along) say can we not look at the racist flag? White people (and at least one crazy Black lady) are like WHAT? This flag never killed ANYONE! Why should we have to get rid of our heritage? People DIED fighting for their beliefs and I honor the memory of the fallen! well some straight info www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6SOdFβ¦
BTW I updated this and did a better one.

Actually, Kent he is very heroic. He has powers on par with my strongest guys and the skills to boot. He may save a bunch of Black and Hispanic kids from getting killed, but he'll still call them darkies and wetbacks. He doesn't like the gays either, because he's a God fearin' man.
He's just got a different world view like that Duck Dynasty guy and he is who is.
This is NOT an attempt to make fun of southerners, but to celebrate them. I grew up on the Dukes of Hazzard and Jack Hatfield here is just a good ol boy.

I don't know. I think I would have a hard time calling anyone heroic who could use terms like that. Especially about children.
And, even though many people would say I'm the same as him because I'm not ashamed to say that homosexuality is a sin, I don't use slang terms for it or the people deceived by it. I may not agree with their predilections toward the same gender but I have no desire to hurt their feelings.

Nothing in my comment tells anyone that God hates them. I don't believe He hates any human being. He does hate sin because it separates us from Him. Yes, homosexuality is a sin just as much as my own struggles with hetero porn is a sin. The only difference is that I try not to sin because I'm ashamed of it. While homosexuals have been lied to by satan and this world and told they aren't sinners so they aren't trying to resist temptation. Do you truly not believe homosexuality is a sin?
π: 0 β©: 1
hulkdaddyg In reply to VagabondX [2014-02-14 21:32:45 +0000 UTC]
According to the Bible homosexuality is sin.
The secular consensus is that it's not a lifestyle choice, addiction or perversion. Christians like you (some Christians believe otherwise)believe it's a lifestyle chosen by people who have been deceived by Satan and that they can be changed by accepting Christ and be transformed by the renewing of their minds.
So there's the crossroad. They don't believe they are making a choice because it's what they are and so they are told by Christians that WHAT THEY ARE IS SIN and God hates sin. The inferred point is then God hates THEM because they can never NOT be gay. It is a matter of perspective, though. You can only see it as expressing your belief no matter how it's perceived by the very ones you want to affect. I personally have made peace with this part of Christianity. Remember the first sentence I typed in this response. I have had arguments with my mom about this and I know I won't be changing any minds, but I thought I'd jut try and let you know how you sound to other people when you make the seemingly harmless statement, "I believe homosexuality is sin."
It used to be a common teaching in the church that Black people were descendents of Ham and bore his curse as our Black skin. It was used as a justification for slavery. But then Christians basically just changed their minds and found different ways to interpret the Bible on that subject. So we'll see how long this belief hold up.Β Β

VagabondX In reply to hulkdaddyg [2014-02-14 23:15:02 +0000 UTC]
According to the Bible homosexuality is sin. is all I need to know. I understand you don't agree and I know nothing I say will convince you otherwise but if I'm going to address your points so I don't feel like I've failed God. I've felt like that too many times in my life. To be blunt, I don't care what the secular consensus is. Secular consensus also says it's okay for heterosexual people to have sex with anyone they want. Even though, more often than not, that just leads to broken hearts. It says that porn is okay as long as its adults involved but porn is never okay. It says that strip clubs are okay. They aren't. So, yes, I trust the Bible more than the secular consensus.
I don't believe it's a conscious choice in every instance. I believe some choose it. I believe some have things happen in their lives that make them think they are. And it may be something people are born with. Like autism or down syndrome. I do believe any sinner can be changed by Christ. If I tell a person that their behavior is sinful and they want to then infer that I'm saying God hates them.(I've never actually told anyone that. I don't know if any homosexual person will ever see this.) They are reading things into my words that aren't there. I can't help that. Jesus told people they were sinners and I believe he loved all of them and did not wish to hurt their feelings. But he was more concerned with their eternal life than their feelings.
I don't know what that means to make peace with part of Christianity. Unless it means you have just chosen not to believe that part.
I can't be worried about how I sound to people. I have to worry more about their eternal life. Jesus told us people would hate us in His name.
I've never heard that teaching about Ham. I do know I don't remember ever reading about it in the Bible. Maybe people are people and will use whatever they can to justify what they want. And maybe Christians just wised up and realized what they were doing wasn't Biblical.
Don't worry, this belief most likely won't hold up. Because people are worried about what other people think of them and don't want to be called bigots or hate-mongers(however erroneous the names might be). But a belief not holding up in public opinion can't negate God's word.

...there are a few breathtaking statements in there. Wow.
But I really wasn't agreeing or disagreeing with you at all. I am not at odds with you on this. If you were trying to convince me that the Bible calls all non heterosexual married sexual behavior sin then it's a waste because I already knew and believed. You're preaching to the converted. That's why I tried to reiterate my opening statement TWICE but you still had this response like I'm an ignorant heathen. I don't know how you would have failed God after reading my opening statement. When I say I've made peace, it's to say I've accepted what the Bible says on the subject and how Christians are using the information.
Your 4th paragraph is really the crux of our conversation here and the only thing I was addressing. If you don't care how you sound when you express your faith then so be it. I have nothing else to say on the matter.
I will leave you this link to the Wiki entry on the curse of Ham, though. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curse_ofβ¦

I understand what you mean and I had fun reading your conversation. (Sorry to eavesdrop!)
I also understand characters like 'Merica, at least more than I used to.
We can all be a little bit biased/bigoted at times, often without realizing it and often times what we've been taught or even what we've observed can have lasting impressions on how we view a group of people.
As Christians I think we need to be careful not to offend others with how we can often come off as self righteous and remember we're sinners too.
I'm happy to see you have such a vast gallery of heroes with depictions of a man who may not be the ideal role model but will still do the right thing when he's called to do it

I hope I didn't seem harsh. I consider my friend. I deeply respect how he freely expresses his faith in his work. I think he's awesome.
The idea for this character started after I did a commission of 's character the Crimson Conservative fav.me/d67mul0 . It just never occurred to me that such a person could exist outside of a villainous concept. I then got to thinking about a few people I know who are good people who don't realize how they sound when they speak and don't really get the impact of the Confederate flag on others. I just wondered how a guy like this would interact with my characters.Β

Β I don't think you seemed harsh but I could tell the argument was getting a tad heated at times. I also respect vagabondx and we need people like you guys to promote God in away that both glorifies him and makes his Christians interesting heroes.
I think the media is what's mostly to blame for the vilifying of conservatives and making it seem as though they are all about greed and oppression.
In my opinion there are plenty of evil things about both sides.
Liberals like to pretend they are for the people and the good of everyone but in my experience they are just as likely to be self entitled and full of poop.
Personally I try to steer clear of people who religiously take the side of mainstream politics since I think they are both (democrats and republicans) more often than not tools.
I have plenty of friends who are conservatives and plenty who are liberals though and even if I don't always agree with the way they shove their ideals onto other people I still love them After all, I can be just as bad when I get stirred up.
I also dislike the Confederate Flag and though I tolerate others using it, it puzzle me why they still hold onto such a divisive thing.
I do like when people like you show that there are good people to be found on both sides.
It's really hurtful to be in a group of all right or left people and hear the things they say about one another, usually misinformed or spitting vitriol.
Oops! Sorry for the short rant. But yes, there are good people on both sides and in the middle too and there are bad people as well in all places.

When people put themselves in a box like religion or politics it sometimes becomes hard for them to see that the object of their scrutiny are other human beings. People are complex and I find it fun to explore our differences and finding out similarities. It has taken me a while to reach this point, though.
To answer the flag question, they simply don't find it divisive. It represents an era- a way of life and a different time. This does conveniently leave out key descriptors like "an era- OF SLAVERY", "a way of life -WHERE SLAVERY WAS LEGAL" and a different time- WHEN WE OWNED SLAVES". But you know rose colored glasses and everything it depends on how you look at it. Ask Paula Deen. lolΒ
