Description SYNOPSIS
Since the dawn of time, the Green Lantern Corps has been the protectors of the universe. An intergalactic police force armed with power rings of willpower, capable of doing whatever it's wearer commands, they are without a doubt one of the most powerful forces the galaxy has ever known.
Less then ten years ago, Hal Jordon (the first human to ever be blessed with a Green Lantern Corps ring) was given a ring after the death of Abin Sur, one of the greatest Green Lanterns of all time. In record time, Hal mastered his ring, defended Earth from rogue Lantern Sinestro, saved the planet of Oa, and helped the Guardians of the Universe discover the existance of the 'Eight Universal Entities'.
However, Hal's place in Lantern history did not come easy, and for him to become the new greatest Lantern of all time, Hal had to go through Hell, and prove to himself and the world that 'fear' is simply a four letter word.

ORIGINS
Hal Jordon first experienced fear first hand when he was a child. His father was a test pilot, a career which Hal, himself, would end up doing as well. Hal's father was his hero, always looking up to him, seeing him as the definition of what a man should be. However, when Hal was still only a boy, he witnessed a freak accident occur in which his father's plane exploded mid-air. Naturally, Hal was devistated, but it was the fear itself that would push Hal in life, forcing him to overcome whatever obstacle faced him in life.
When Hal was old enough, Ferris Air, the fighter jet manufactoring corporation that actually designed and built the plane Hal's father died in, hired Hal to be part of their team. Hal was desperate to follow in his father's footsteps as a pilot, but considering what happened to his father, the Ferris family was hesitant to allow Jordon inside a cockpit. So far years, Hal was forced to stay on the ground, assisting in minor jobs such as fueling and cleaning the jets. However, after Metropolis' most powerful man, Lex Luthor, came to Coast City so that he could form a partnership with Ferris Air, a demonstration of a Ferris rand jet fighter was needed. However, two fighters were needed for the demonstration, and Carol Ferris was the only test pilot on hand.
The Ferris family had no choice. Hal Jordon was about to experience flight.
Hal and Carol both manned their jets and demonstrated the jets' skills perfectly, impressing Luthor to the point where he officially signed for Ferris Air to be LexCorp's exclusive flight partners. Hal was promoted as a full-fledged test pilot, offically taking on the title his late father had.
Little did Hal know that one year later, he would be earning another title.
Hal was to test out a brand new stealth jet when he soon flew out to the desert canyon area outside Coast City. Without warning, a strange craft took out one of the jet's wings before crashing to the Earth below. Jordon parachuted to safety as his jet was destroyed. Hal soon found himself landing near where the mysterious craft crashed. Inside, Hal found something that would change his life forever.
An alien being named Abin Sur was inside the craft, wearing a strange green uniform with an even stranger ring on his finger. With his dying breath, Abin told Hal that he was the Green Lantern of Sector 2814, the Lantern's sector code for Earth. Abin gave his ring to hal, telling him that it was his duty to replace him as Earth's Green Lantern. Abin also gave Hal the legendary Green Lantern battery, the tool that would re-plenish the power ring whenever it's energy gets drained. Hal accepted the ring and the battery as Abin's body and spaceship suddenly disappeared in a blast of green energy to parts unknown.
Convinced that no one would believe his story (or worse, what the military would do with such information), Hal hid the battery in the desert as Ferris Air personal found Hal, thankful that he survived the explosion. After being checked out by medical personal and giving his rebort about the crash, Hal immediatly headed back to the desert and re-claimed the battery. As soon as ring and battery were joined again, the ring suddenly sent Hal into the vastness of space, controlling Hal's body.
Soon, Hal Jordon arrived to the planet Oa, where he met Sinestro, considered by many to be the greatest Green Lantern of them all. He took it upon himself to train Jordon, acting exclusively as his teacher. Immediatly, Hal noticed Sinestro's seriousness, but couldn't but feel something strange about his mentor as well. Deep down inside his heart, surrounded by willpower, something else was growing inside of Sinestro. Something that would end up taking its toll on the Green Lantern Corps for years to come. Fear.
As years passed, and Hal took his place as one-fifth of the newly formed 'Justice League of America', Hal was quickly rising in the ranks for the Corps itself. For one who was once overlooked for being the first human in the Green Lantern Corps, Jordon quickly became one of its' star officers. For his relatively brief time as a Lantern, he already assisted the Corps in dismantling the renegade Manhunter robots, fighting off the Anti-Lantern Corps, and even fought off Earth bound threats, such as Black Hand, Solomon Grundy, and even the immortal Vandal Savage, a battle that led to Hal teaming up with the man who took on the Green Lantern title during World War II, Alan Scott (more on his later). Still, as Hal Jordon was becoming more and more beloved through out the universe, Sinestro began to grow jealous. Always having an immediate distaste for humans, Sinestro began to look down upon the Green Lantern Corps, suddenly questioning rules and following his own established command.
Then one day, Sinestro crossed the line.
While Jordon and Sinestro were dealing with the threat of intergalactic villian Evil Star, Sinestro used lethal force (a sacred objection in the grand Book of Oa) and killed the foe, Jordon witnessing the entire act. This act led to Sinestro being put on trial by the guardians. Despite his loyalty to his mentor, Jordon told the truth in his testimonial, stating that Sinestro's act was, indeed, against regulations and uncalled for. The Guardians found Sinestro guilty, stripped him of his ring, and sent him into exile. As Sinestro's ship was sent across the galaxy, his last words were cursing Hal Jordon's name, blaming him for his exile. Despite knowing that he did the right thing, Hal couldn't help but feel mild regret for his actions, and assumed that he would never see Sinestro again.
Hal Jordon thought wrong.
Sinestro's exile led him to clear across the galaxy to the anti-matter planet of Qward. Sinestro soon discovered that the planet was inhabited by beings who used a technology much like that of the Guardian's power rings, yet they seemed to be powered by something other then the green light of willpower. The Qwardians actually used and worshipped the yellow power of fear, worshipping an entity that they viewed as blessing them with the yellow light: Parallax. It did not take long for Sinestro to befriend the Qwardians and soon find a means to forge his own yellow power ring. As soon as he slipped it on his finger, he swore revenge on Hal Jordon and the Green Lantern Corps, promising that he would form his own Corps. The Sinestro Corps.
With his new powers feeding off the entitiy Parallax, Sinestro began to travel the galaxy, finding those who best felt the emotion of fear, offering them membership to his Corps. Soon, his army was great, and when he was satisfied with its' numbers, Sinestro unleashed his Corps upon Oa, igniting the first blow it what would be known as 'The Sinestro Corps War'. The nature of the battle was grand, and many Lanterns on both sides would lose their lives, but the Guardians soon revealed that they always knew this war was to happen...for it was part of a prophecy.
Legend told the Guardians that soon, 'Lanterns of Great Fear' would unleash their fury on the universe, leading to what would be known as 'The War of Light'. Then, the 'Entities' would make their return, just in time for the bearers of light to experience 'The Blackest Night'. Of course, as cryptic as the Book of Oa was, the Guardians never expected the prophecy to become true at the rate it was going. And nevertheless, Hal Jordon stood by the side of the Green Lantern Corps, and with his help, the Green Lanterns eventually won the war, but only by the greatest reveal of them all. During the final battle of the war, Sinestro destroyed the grand Green Lantern Power Battery on Oa, unleashing the entity of willpower, Ion. For a brief moment, Ion entered Hal Jordon's body and assisted him in fighting off the Sinestro Corps. Sinestro pulled back, claiming that the Green Lanterns had won the battle, but not the war, for soon, Sinestro would find a way to unleash Parallax on the Lanterns.
Following the war, like the prophecy said, more and more Lanterns from around the universe began to stand revealed, each representing a different color, and a different emotion. The Blue Lanterns arrived first, representing hope. Then came the savage Red Lanterns, representing rage. Next came Larfleeze, the first, last, and only Orange Lantern, his avarice not allowing him to share his power with others. Most shockingly of the Lanterns was the reveal of the Star Sapphires, who represented love. The shocking concept of their leader being revealed as Hal's former boss, Carol Ferris. Carol seemingly had great feelings for Hal, but when he never returned them to her, she felt shunned, leading to her becoming a Star Sapphire. Finally, just as the Indigo Tribe (representing compassion) made themselves known, it happened.
The Blackest Night arrived.
Nekron, the ruler of the dead, saw the formation of the multi colored Lanterns and decided that he wanted similar powers. Using Black Hand as his avatar, Black Lantern rings were created, used in re-animating the dead from around the galaxy, unleashing them on the universe. The Black Lanterns killed, stole the hearts, and drafted the recently dead into their Corps, making the Black Lanterns stronger with each kill. The Lanterns, Sinestro included, put aside their difference, fighting off the Black Lanterns. However, during this time, Hal Jordon and his fellow Lanterns came across a stunning realization: all seven of the Lanterns have their own entities, but as the Book of Oa states, there is actually an eigth entity, and an eigth color: The White Light of Life. And ironically enough, the Life Entity is actually hidden deep inside Earth. Once the Lanterns unearthed the entity, it immediatly took Hal Jordon as its chosen one, and with the power of the White Light, Nekron and the Black Lanterns were defeated.
During the final battle, the Guardians were destroyed, leaving the universe without protection. However, Hal Jordon spoke with the leaders of the Lanterns and told them that it would be in the best interest for the Galaxy if the various Lanterns worked together, calling a truce. The others agreed...except for Sinestro. He continued to verbally assault Hal Jordon, blaiming him for the entire Blackest Night. With one wrong word, the Yellow Lanterns finally had enough. His own Corps once again stripped Sinestro of his ring and banished him back to Qward, offering their servies to the Green Lantern Corps and the rest of the Corps. Hal set into motion that Lanterns would work together as a type of police station, each Lantern using their best abilities to defend justice throughout the universe (but that's a story for another day).
Following the realization that the Life Force Entity was on Earth, Hal understood that Earth Sector 2814 would need more protecting, so he released three seperate Green Lantern rings on earth to find chosen individuals who best represented Willpower. Those three people ended up being retired football play and current bar owner Guy Gardner, architect and former Navy SEAL John Stewart, and freelance artist Kyle Rayner. However, these three men would soon find themselves having their own seperate adventures with the most powerful weapon in the universe.
As for the Entities, they called their own truce and decided to become the new Guardians of the Universe, making sure that the Blackest Night never happens again. However, in their current states, they could only offer so much help. The quest for hosts was about to begin...
Following the Blackest Night, Hal and the Lanterns were on call to assist during Darkseid's attack on earth during 'The Crisis'. The Crisis taught Hal that while he will always be a spaceage member of the Green Lantern Corps, its important for him to also protect Earth, choosing recently to be a more earth bound hero, and currently stands as one of the three senior members of the new Justice League of America.
Hal Jordon has come a long way from being a would be test pilot to being one of the greatest heroes of all time, and will continue to do so as long as he sees the light. In Brightest Day, in Blackest Night. No evil shall escape his sight. Let those who worship evil's might, beware his power...Green Lantern's light.

STATUS QUO:
It's been 2 years since the Blackest Night, and 2 months since the Crisis. Hal Jordon has left John Stewart to fill his role with the Green Lantern corps, but is still always onhand to assist if need be. Hal still has his job as a Test Pilot, but following Carol Ferris selling Ferris Air to LexCorp, Hal finds himself as more of a freelance pilot then being with only one single company.
Speaking of Carol, following the Blackest Night, Hal and Carol finally had a chance to talk, work things about between the two, and decided to simply be friends. Carol spends most of her time on Oa, acting as one of the officers in The Corps (more on her later). However, Hal does have a slowly evolving romance with fellow test pilot, Jillian Pearlman, whom Hal playfully has dubbed 'His Cowgirl'.
Hal also has seveal frienships with various superheroes. Barry Allen (The Flash) and Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) stand out as his two best friends, yet he and Oliver seem to spend most of their time bickering and talking about different left wing/right wing concepts of life. Hal Jordon is also one of the most experienced members of the Justice League of America, and currently stands as one of the three remaining original members, along with Martian Manhunter and Aquaman.

AUTHOR'S NOTES:
"I've seem to always notice that Green Lantern is one of the strangest heroes of all time when it comes to following. Everyone seems to know what Green Lantern is, but not everyone seems to understand him, which I think was a major factor with the recent film. There is really nothing wrong with the current Green Lantern (which is why, as you may have noticed, that in his overall storyline, I sorta changed very little), but if there was one thing I'd change, it'd be spreading him too thin. The current Hal Jordon has a solo book, a team book, GL Corps, and starring roles in events. My Hal is totally Earth bound. He is the Green Lantern of Sector 2814, after all, and that's sorta where he should be staying."

Although I prefer John Stewart because of the Justice League (Unlimited) animated series, your reboot idea for Hal Jordan (btw, why do you call him Jordon?) is clean and excellent, although the end to Blackest Night is a bit too "happy". I doubt that the Red Lanterns for example would agree to a truce (even a temporary one).

Thanks. Honestly, I guess I simply never really thought about the spelling. My bad.

As for the truce, check out my "Corps" reboot design for a tad bit more details.
