Description
"Birds of Prey"Years ago, Barbara Gordon was attacked inside her father's, Commissioner Jim Gordon, home by the Joker in an attempt to warp her father's mind, leading to Barbara being shot through the spine with a bullet. Joker had no idea, but his action also caused the end of Barbara's career as Batgirl. Since the attack, Barbara has become a watchdog for the hero community, acting as a hacker known as the all knowing, all seeing Oracle.
Then the Crisis arrived, and during the madness, Batman's nemesis Ras Al Ghul tried to trick him into joining his side by offering 'gifts' via his Lazarus Pit. Ras not only brought Batman's former sidekick, Jason Todd, back from the dead, but he also kidnapped and forced Barbara into the pit, causing her injuries to be healed, and giving her the ability to walk again.
While Ras was defeated and the Lazarus Pit (which effects slowly have been recorded to break down the mind due to excessive usage) was plugged forever, Barbara was suddenly left with a new decision to make. Eventually, the call of action was too tempting, and she once again re-donned her identity as Batgirl.
Soon after her return, Batgirl was approached by the young hero known as Raven, telling her that she has 'been summoned'. When asking who summoned her, Barbara was shocked to discover that she was summoned by Oracle. In an attempt to figure out this mystery, Batgirl agrees, but is even more surprised by what she discovers.
Whoever this new Oracle is, she has put together a team of female heroes (behind the backs of Bruce Wayne and CHECKMATE) as a means to stop metahuman threats and evil corporations other heroes are afraid or unable to get involved with.
Operating from a clocktower in the heart of Gotham City, the team consists of Raven, The Huntress, Lady Blackhawk, Vixen, Dove, Hawkgirl, and team leader Black Canary.
Barbara still has no idea who Oracle is, but she is working on it. In the meantime, she offers her assistance to the team, and soon becomes proud to be a Bird of Prey.

I love your team roster, consisting of several of my favorites like Raven, Vixen, and others. I welcome the newcomers and the old classics, and I always love an all-female team of super heroines.

Interesting mixing up the Birds and the original Secret Six with a mysterious Oracle as Mockingbird. Has the potential for a constantly rotating cast and provides mystery. The Kendra Hawkgirl and Vixen always did seem like naturals for the team.
Gotta wonder about using Raven to get the team together in essentially the same way she did the New Teen Titans, however.

Your Birds of Prey reboot is not bad, but this team was never meant to deal with the big threats (that was always the Justice League's role; I can't even imagine a foe that the JL would be afraid of but that the Birds of Prey would be able to deal with). As for evil corporations (like LexCorp, Dagget Industries, Cale Pharmaceutics and so on), Bruce (or Question) was never afraid to confront them as Batman, why would he suddenly be afraid of them now that he leads Checkmate?
I kind of like your new Oracle (though I doubt most of the members of this team would willingly work for him/her if he/she never shows up in person), but I just have a little conceptual problem with Barbara being able to walk again ever since someone pointed out on a forum that giving her her legs back was like telling DC's handicapped audience that Oracle couldn't be a superheroine because she was paraplegic.

A few things.
First and foremost, a superhero team isn't simply about the best and the strongest heroes coming together to put up a fight. Its about the right team. Sometimes, the threats of the world can sprout from nowhere and grow into something massive. That is why the Birds stand together: to take on a threat quietly before it can escalate to the point where Checkmate would have to get involved.
Also, the Birds of Prey have always been, to me, about sisterhood. Heroines standing side by side, relying off eachother, and becoming the family that Β they need.
Finally, I actually agree. I would like to see Barbara Gordon back as Oracle, but deep in her heart, she is Batgirl, and I like seeing her as Batgirl as well. Hell, she was the first Batgirl, and never did a bad job in costume, so why not give her another go?

Β - "Also, the Birds of Prey have always been, to me, about sisterhood. Heroines standing side by side, relying off eachother, and becoming the family that Β they need."
Never said the contrary. Even though they've had a few male members (Blue Beetle, Hawk and Dove), the Birds of Prey were born from the deep friendship between Huntress, Black Canary and Oracle and the three of them will always be the pillar of this team.
Again, I'm nitpicking but
Β - "Whoever this new Oracle is, she has put together a team of female heroes (behind the backs of Bruce Wayne and CHECKMATE) as a means to stop metahuman threats and evil corporations other heroes are afraid or unable to get involved with."
is just not the same as
Β - "That is why the Birds stand together: to take on a threat quietly before it can escalate to the point where Checkmate would have to get involved."
In the first case, it is implied that threats that have escalated past a certain point are included in what the Birds of Prey deal with, while the second phrase implies that their specialty is rather anticipation and prevention of said threats.
Β - "so why not give her another go?"
The issue here is not really about her being Batgirl or not, it's about the message DC are sending. Oracle was one of the first handicapped superheroes (and the first handicapped superheroine) and even though she was wheelchair-bound she was still badass (she could still swing her eskrima sticks ). Giving her her legs back out of the blue like that was a big slap in the face of DC's handicapped audience.

Is that the Kendra Saunders, or your take on Shiera Hall?

I prefer Kendra in the comics, so I think that's my basis here. Though, I do adore Shiera in the JL/JLU animated series.

Actually, Shierra Hall was in the comics during the Golden Age, until she died and Kendra Saunders took over.
Shayera Hol, from the animated series was based on the Golden Age Shierra Hall.

I know, but Shierra in the comics sorta bored me. Kendra was alot more entertaining and stood out more as her own hero.

Oh really?! Huh, I thought you were one of those people who got the two mixed up, or thought were the same person or got the history or names wrong. Thought always bugs me.
Another thing that bugs me is that people tend to hate or dislike Kendra because She's not Shiera Hall; She's not the golden age hawkgirl nor the character based on the golden age hawkgirl from the animated Justice League show, Shayera Hol.
And they dislike her even more now that the reboot gave the name, Kendra Saunders, to the Earth-2 Hawkgirl.

I just liked Kendra the way Brad Meltzer wrote her in Justice League of America. It was a short lived characterization, but I liked it.

I like strong women. Besides, this was made during a time where the Barbara Gordon character was still very important to me, so I wanted her to look at her best.

This was actually one of those ideas I had years before the reboot even happened. I was going to make them literal birds of prey (Dove, Hawkgirl, Raven, Black Canary, etc), so I just decided to go one step closer and boom! The reboot was born.
