Description
On the left path, Louise Oranha and Jane Deus quickly walked their path as they darted their eyes and called for their coach.
“Coach!” Louise called. “Are you down this way?”
“Hey, Coach! Where are you at!” Jane yelled at the top of her lungs. “Coach!”
“Ugh, where could she be?” Louise said as she took her backpack off to get her water bottle.
“I knew that she was going to do something like this!” Jane exclaimed in frustration.
“Actually Jane, you were the person who blinded us and got us into this mess.” Louise said bluntly.
“Don’t blame it all on me, Louise. You know that Coach shouldn’t have left us behind!” Jane said in a huff.
“And you should have known that using your camera’s extremely bright flash for a joke opportunity wasn’t a good idea.” Louise said in irritation as she gulped down her water and put her back pack back on.
“Oh! Go climb a tree!” Jane angrily yelled through gritted teeth as she walked faster. “Maybe that could help us find her better!”
“Hmph, maybe I will.” Louise said with a cocky scoff as she looked for a sturdy enough tree. “But just because you are a housemaiden does not mean I have to answer to you if I find anything!”
Jane said nothing after that as Louise made quick work of climbing a tree. She couldn’t help but glare as she continued to walk, knowing that Louise was being smug as she hopped from tree to tree as they continued to go down their path.
With the other group, Annalise and Kaana were keeping their eyes and ears peeled as they trudged along the rocky pathway, with the pebbles in the dirt crunching under their boots as they continued their search for Coach Clawdeen.
“Gee, I know I have a bad sense of direction, but it feels like we have been walking around in circles.” Annalise said. “All these trees look so similar, so it’s hard to determine a landmark.”
“You said it.” Kanna added. “It’s like the time I was tricked into running through a droste maze as a kid.”
“Do you think Coach is already at our destination?” Annalise asked.
“I am pretty sure that she is.” Kaana said. “She does move pretty fast already, and I would be more surprised if she wasn’t.”
“Yeah, wouldn’t it be funny if it turned out that we were actually ahead of her?” Annalise said with a chuckle. “I mean we have been on this trail for a while now.”
“If that were the case, I’d eat my hat.” Kaana said with an amused smile as she scanned their surroundings again. “But our first guess is probably our best bet, and all of this mess, just to eat ramen from a shop that may or may not even be there.”
“I know the entire reason why we were brought on this hike was… skeptical at best.” Annalise said, trying to stay positive. “But, that doesn’t mean that we can’t have hope for the goal at the end of our quest.”
“I’d have more hope if we weren't told that phones were prohibited during this hike.” Kaana said as she jumped over a log. “Then I would’ve been able to check in with the others in their hunt.”
“Well, if you did have your phone, you wouldn’t be able to admire all of the beautiful scenery nature has to offer!” Annalise said as she threw her arms out to gesture everything around them.
“You can’t admire nature in a potential crisis, Annalise.” Kaana said in an unimpressed and frustrated tone. “Ugh, I really wish we could find the chef and the others!”
“Hmm, have you tried using any of the magic you learned to reach your housemaiden?” Annalise asked.
“Like a messaging spell?” Kaana said, confused. “I have only been here for about a month, I haven’t learned that kind of stuff yet.”
“Luckily, for you, I have a spell that should be able to at least reach Louise and Jane if they’re in range.” Annalise said. “Which is about a fifteen kilometer radius on average, depending on magic level of course.”
“Well what are you just talking to me for? Contact them!” Kaana said desperately while hitting Annalise’s back.
“Alrighty!” Annalise said as she put her hand on her chest and summoned her spell. “To Louise Oranha and Jane Deus, let's have a Heart to Heart!”
Back with the first group, Jane and Louise continued down their path with no glimpse of their coach or their destination in sight. They were both quite frustrated, until they heard a familiar voice come from nowhere.
“Louise! Jane! Can you hear me?” The familiar voice said.
“Woah!” Louise said in surprise as she fell from her perch in one of the surrounding trees onto Jane.
“Hey! Get offa’ me!” Jane said in anger as she pushed her partner off.
“Louise! Jane! Can you hear me!?” The voice said in a louder volume.
“Who and what are you?” Both girls said as they looked around the trail.
“It’s me! Annalise Otohollan!” Annalise said in a gleeful voice. “Boy am I glad to hear you guys!”
“Lissy!? Where are you?” Louise said in pleasant surprise.
“Is Kaana still with you?” Jane asked.
“Kaana is still with me, and we are still on the other path. Thankfully our location is within the range of my spell.” Annalise answered.
“Since you are using your spell, have you guys found Coach yet?” Louise asked.
“Sadly no, we haven’t found her yet.” Annalise said somberly. “I was actually going to ask you that same question.”
"Well, we haven’t found her either.” Jane said quickly. “Now what are we going to do?”
“I don’t know! It’s not like we have a tracker we can use to find her droste of a hiking trail.” Annalise said in a panic.
“Wait! Maybe we do!” Louise said after a moment of realization.
“Really? What’s your idea, Louise?” Annalise said in delight.
“Remember earlier on our walk when Coach was talking about the spell she was using to lead us to our destination?” Louise asked.
“Yeah?” Jane and Annalise said in unison.
“It’s called Locus Pocus! And all you have to do is have a clear thought of what you are trying to find and it will lead you straight to it!” Louise started. “So if one person from each group can use it, we can find Coach in a snap! What do you say guys?”
“I don’t know, it might be kind of a long shot.” Jane said in an unsure tone.
“But what choice do we have?” Annalise said pleadingly. “I say we give it a chance.”
“Okay, fine.” Jane said as she gave in.
“Alrighty, then I will stop my spell and try Locus Pocus.” Annalise said. “Good luck and I hope to see you when we find Coach!”
“See you there!” Louise and Jane said as the spell wore off and they couldn’t hear Annalise’s voice anymore.
“I hope this works.” Jane and Kaana said as they stepped closer to their group leaders.
“So do I.” Louise and Annalise said before focussing their thoughts to see a clear picture of Coach Clawdeen. Once they got their images, they confidently said the spell’s name and a bright clear path was made for them to follow.
The girls immediately began to run down their newly found paths, and after a few minutes of running they made it to the campsite where, to their surprise they found the Nabewari Ramen shop, and Coach Clawdeen standing right in front of it.
“COACH!” The four students yelled as they entered from their pathways and caught Coach Clawdeen’s attention.
“Ladies! You got here!” Coach Clawdeen said happily. “And in good time too, the shop is low on ingredients and is gonna disappear soon. So make sure you have your spring water bottles ready to try some noodles!”
“We would have been with you if it hadn’t been for this one here trying to tell a bad joke!” Kaana said with her eyes pointed to Jane, who was making an embarrassed expression.
“Yeah, and two of us may have drunk most of our spring water by mistake,” Annalise said nervously. “Also sorry, to have kept you waiting.”
“That’s fine. I always keep backups in case something like this happens.” Coach Clawdeen said as she grabbed two full bottles from her pockets. “And you guys didn’t keep me waiting for long, but that can be explained over some ramen. So come on, ladies!”
“Right!” They said as the girls followed their Coach into the shop for a well deserved lunch.
