Description
The group of Coach Clawdeen and the 4 students had traveled about thirty minutes away from the school. The day was warm as the sun rose, with a slight chill as the breeze came in to rustle the leaves of the trees.
“Wow, Coach. You really picked a perfect day for this hike!” Annalise Otohollan said as she admired the scenery around her.
“But of course!” Coach Clawdeen said from the front of the group. “I made sure with the Headmaga’s weather forecast to ensure that this hike would go without a hitch. Climate wise at least!
“I still think it is too cold.” Kaana Sirhiss said as she shivered. “Why can't the surface’s weather always be warm and sunny?”
“You know that people also get sick of that kind of weather too, right?” Louise Oranha said in a slightly irritated tone.
“Ugh, I can’t see why people would.” Kaana groaned. “You don’t have to wear extra layers, nor stay cooped up inside in fear of freezing your limbs off. Why would anyone hate it?”
“I understand where you are coming from, but you have to understand that some people don’t like the same kind of weather all the time, Kaana.” Louise said. “They can go crazy if there isn’t a change every once and a while.”
“She does have a point there, Kaana.” Jane said. “One thing that I do like about staying with my mom in the Shaftlands, and, to an extent, being here at school, is that I get to see how the different seasons work in other places besides the Sunset Savana.
“I also have to concur with Louise.” Annalise chimed in. “As someone who comes from a place that has one kind of weather all year, I know exactly how that feels.”
“Alright, fair enough.” Kaana said after a long sigh. She then proceeded to slow down to the back of the group and stay behind Jane so nobody could see her try to calm her irritated expression.
“So, uh, Coach?” Jane asked, trying to change the subject. “Since this hike looks like it's gonna take a while, will we be stopping at any points, or will we be straight lining it to the place?
“We will be taking only two stops during this round trip.” Coach Clawdeen replied. “The second will obviously be our destination, but the first will be at the first place you all arrived before coming to the school’s campus.”
“Oh, you mean the Testing Center?” Annalise said as she shot up her hand.
“Bingo!” The coach said in a proud tone as she quickly checked the time on her phone. “And if we keep this pace we should be arriving in the next 15 minutes or so.”
“Also, Coach, how do you even know where to go without a map or something like that?” Jane asked.
“It's actually quite simple, Miss Deus,” Coach Clawdeen started, “It is a combination of my experience as an explorer, and a well-practiced spell.”
“A spell?” Jane asked, now grabbing the attention of the group.
“Yes, a little something called Locus Pocus.” Coach Clawdeen said.
“What does it do?” Annalise Otohollan asked.
“Sounds really stupid…” Kaana thought, still in a very sour mood.
“This spell, when done right, is able to find the exact location of anything you need to find.” Coach Clawdeen explained. “In the past, many people used it to track enemies or captives when there were no leads that even those with expert tracking skills could find. Many people of the Briar Valley still use it because of their completely magic based society.”
“Sort of like a GPS but for everything.” Louise said. “How do you do it?”
“All that you have to do is have a clear idea of what you are trying to find, say the spell’s name, and it will give you the directions.” Coach Clawdeen said.
“Wait, aren't big companies like Olympos and Mira trying to develop that kind of thing into their own GPS systems?” Kaana asked from the back.
“From what I have heard, yes. But I have seen no reliable sources for that claim.” Coach Clawdeen said as she noticed that they were approaching their checkpoint. “Alright ladies! We are here! We will take a short break and then we will get back on the trail. Make sure to listen to me and keep an eye on time!”
“Yes, Coach!” The four girls said as the group arrived at the Grand Cauldron Academy testing center to rest and refresh themselves, before the long part of their hike.
