Description
EDIT: Apparently you can just full-view to see the animation now. When did that happen? An animation test of my Greywing character Leto, flying. It will probably be real slow at first, but after it loads it should get better. First time trying to animate the character, unfortunately, no moving background, for I can't figure out how to have the background move at an acceptable rate without repeating the character frames so much that the file becomes huge and unresponsive...
Drew each frame in Adobe Photoshop CS, and strung the frames together in Ulead Gif Animator 5.

Very good animation. But you're graywing character is a little bit stiff. His body got to be a little more loose.

Sorry for the late reply
Yeah, this old thing has a lot of issues with it. Considering that it's nearly four years old now. XD
But, I have improved vastly since this, and am planning to finally tackle some real animation, so keep an eye out for it. ^w^

That's ok. Have some drawings that are literally three years old and I have already forgot about it.

Animation is tough work. I tried it once, didn't get anywhere after two hours, and quit.
The wings are very fluid.

I made a bat anim like this once. Some years back though.

I was actually surprised at how well this one came out, as it was literally the first time I'd ever tried it
Thanks!

As you know I animate as well < my work
The skills here are impressive but something about the animation is bugging me. Maybe it is the lack of moveing shadow detail

Yeah ^^
Animation is rather fun! And I have indeed seen your work, 'specially with all those avatars.
Well, shading is notoriously hard to animate, as you may know. Very few, if any cartoons use it, tending to stick with flats unless it's the highest light contrast situation, like in a dark room with a fire, or illuminated by a spotlight. You'll notice that even the Disney studios only really use shading on the background ^^

Could be that I am used to anime shadeing

You are right there ^^
Anime definitely utilizes shading. 'Tis just the Western cartoons that tend not to. ^^

Lazy Americans! *fench like voice*
Speaking of animation me and scorchie will be working on one of me turning into a ground hornbill (I am still figureing out how it should look fram wise and what the "sapient hornbill" should look like). We will get to it eventually.

That sounds interesting, you mean a photo-morph?

No actually i am going to describe a illustrated me and as it tuns its head to the right it will turn into a ground hornbill then the cycle reverses (or the hornbill flys away and the human me fades back in).

how did you do it!!!????!!

Icaron In reply to Draco6767 [2009-02-16 22:25:25 +0000 UTC]
It's a bit complicated to explain, but I'll try. I used about 10 or so layers in photoshop. One for the head, one for the body, and about 7-8 for each frame of the wing movement. The head and body should be on a different layer allow them to stay exactly the same while the wings and other things move. (It also lets you slide them around to create head or body movement) The moving parts are drawn on a layer above the static parts. For each frame of movement, a new layer should be drawn so that you can make all but one movement layer invisible, merge the image, and save it (to create an individual). Then undo the merge, put the next movement layer visible and merge/save again, and that is done for each layer. Then simply string them together in a gif animator like Ulead Gif Animator 5 or Jasc Animation shop. Windows movie maker might work also.
Its time consuming, but rewarding!
Woah... I hope that wasn't too confusing.

GOOD GOD I CAN'T DO STUFF LIKE THIS LET ALONE POST IT!!!
But you DID use Flash or something...right?

Icaron In reply to BatLover800 [2009-01-29 22:06:14 +0000 UTC]
Nope, no Flash involved, though I really wish I could afford the program. The separate frames were done in Photoshop, and then animated together in Ulead Gif Animator 5. ^^

I definitely intend to try something like that in the future, but I'll need quite a bit more practice first.
