Description "It was my thirtieth year to heaven
Woke to my hearing from harbour and neighbour wood
And the mussel pooled and the heron
Priested shore
The morning beckon
With water praying and call of seagull and rook
And the knock of sailing boats on the net webbed wall
Myself to set foot
That second
In the still sleeping town and set forth."

- from 'oem in October' by Dylan Thomas

A 'stained glass' fractal stretched over with netting and tortured into a singularity with a super_shape FX.

Edit: damn that capital pee, turning into an emote

Something really appeals to me from this work. I try to pinpoint what it is so here goes my thoughts...
reminds me of fall about midway through where the leaves have started to breakdown and you can see the veins in them. Or of the light coming down through the leaves or like a stain glass.

The texture and layout your eye does not get bored and it makes me want to look harder at it. It makes want to be sure I have not missed a detail. Words can only convey so much, you know what they say about a picture... it is worth a thousand words. I have fallen a few short of that. LOL

Thanks for the detailed comment - I always appreciate time taken on relating an impression There is much that is accidental in this, yet perhaps it couldn't have been better with deliberation, for instance the crop was partly forced by avoiding visible dead space to the right. I'm not-so-secretly pleased that it remains, in my experience, truly unique

Hi there!

This fractal has been included in my bi-monthly newsletter showcasing unique fractal art, NEVER DUPLICATED FRACTALS!

Please tell me if you wish not to be included in future editions. Either way, congratulations!

Cheers!

P.S.: I did it again.

What a beautiful piece of work; it would make an absolutely fabulous piece of stained glass, especially if the fabricator were able to capture all the wonderful detail. Every aspect goes so beautifully with every other, from the netting, to the palette, to the dark bars interspersed among the shapes, to the lighting; bravo, and congratulations on the DD -- well-deserved indeed!

Wow, thank you indeed It was fashioned using a variation on the 'stained glass' technique that I discovered... and subsequently realised I hadn't saved the parameters I was able subsequently to approach the original, but I was never happy enough with it. Perhaps I need to spend more time...

They always do that - it's especially annoying when someone posts parameters with the new-style gradient format, thus:

<alette count="256" format="RGB">

I'll also take the opportunity to express appreciation for all the s and the And for the recluse that I am, Dorset seems an awful long way

It's quite a long way from where you are; my daughter lives at Stalybridge, so we do come up to your part of the country from time to time.

That's wierd about the Pee - it seems to occur if there's some character either before or after it!

There's something I'm missing here. I've made some fractals, and they're good, but they're not good. And I do my share of torturement to them as well. I can't ask "what's your secret", because if I were you I wouldn't even bother to reply with "bugger off", but honestly, do you have any tips for ameteurs like me? I use Apo and edit with Photoshop. Congratulations on your DD and with (?).

IDeviant In reply to Sobeita [2007-08-06 19:20:51 +0000 UTC]

I would never tell a genuine seeker to bugger off! I'll repeat a hint from the previous comment:

"This actually started life as a 'stained glass' style flame (hint: you can pick up a starter parameter here ), but I found a method of introducing a more painterly element into it."

I developed this variant on the method just in time to get an entry to the Benoit Mandelbrot Fractal Art Contest 2007 . I might choose to reveal all afterwards...

The gradient itself actually doesn't look like it would produce this - it's one of those freak combinations of hitting a good mix of base colours with the right brightness level
