Description Inspired by the scifi novel "Ringworld" written by Larry Niven, a quite good one btw, which happens to be inspiration for a famous computer game i assume. Anyway, i will definately work on this one to post it as deviation.

This version is yet too simple and boring to be worthy a deviation. Comments pleace

The Ringworld was inspired by a Dyson sphere. The Dyson sphere is an entirely encapsulated solar system. I am also a fan of Larry Niven.

Sir....I never read the Ringworld books, but I'm writing one that features a ringworld and I would love to use this in a photomanip piece I'm doing as a cover to a novel. May I?

I thought the shadow squares would be floating only a few hundred (or should I say thousand? Given the ring's massive size, not sure on that one) off of the ring's surface.

Agreed, the Ringworld books were awesome.

Love the render, though I kinda imagined the shadow panels further away from the sun....

I'm on book 3 right now... and the numbers are just... wow, I can't imagine half of what the size of this thing would be. Thanks for giving me a visual image to think about! Great job!

I believe you got the sun and the shadow squares perfect!
But the scale is to small and Almighty Nabeshin was right about the outside of the Ring. I think Ring World is extremely hard to render because of those shadow squares, you can't see any detail. But thats just me

Actually it was written in the book that the ring world super structure was only a few tens of meters thick. Also the under side was a negative of the insides hills, mountains, rivers, oceans, etc. Your illustration would suggest that the entire structure is hollow, but wether it is or not it's just a waist of material, more than an entire solar system would have. But the image is very well done.

oh i thought you meant the whole "was built around sun" thing

Well, true... but i guess a smaller version would still require more material than widely available.

Hm.. i always wanted to finish that piece or make something worth a deviation out of this.. but well... too many people thinking of Halo anyway

Even though Halo was an excelent game it's always refreshing to find someone who's not obsessed with it or automatically thinks of Halo when they see a ring world structure.
