Well...he's not totally dead, at least for a while. They kill his brain, not his body. The bad guys replace his programming with their own and send him home. The rest of the team refuses to accept him so Galvatron threatens to have them killed unless they merge. So they merge...and that kills the lot of them. I have no mercy as a writer.
