I think of the Primes, even Optimus, as having a somewhat complicated and conflicted relationship with the Matrix. On the one hand, they honor and respect it...almost to the point of religious worship. On the other, as individuals it symbolizes their servitude to their people and all pain that represents.

the use of color and contrast works very well in this piece. the large amount of negative space emphasizes the loneliness of the central figure. The lack of any facial expression on Optimus makes it hard to convey exactly what all he might be thinking but I think we can still infer that he's deep in contemplation. On the whole, this piece has a "scratch board" feel to it that I think works well with your style. Not the typical cell shaded or realistically rendered stuff and I like it the more for it. That said, I think that the use of the fat 50% white highlights hurt your otherwise interesting work. They aren't noticeable on the legs as they are going with the smaller strokes, but on the arms they really look out of place. I think that if you had kept with the thin full white brush it would have made for a more cohesive effect.
Still though, I do like this piece and the light from the matrix is handled well, as is the "emotion" of the piece. Keep up the good work e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="

I think you have the Primes' relationship with the Matrix right on dot. This piece relays that idea very well, the sadness really comes from the piece.

Nice claro/oscuro (that's the name in Spanish. No idea how to write it in Italian). It really puts emphasis on the Matrix and on the fact that Optimus is alone, and not just alone in the room but in his decision of taking or not the Matrix (heh I read the original page). In fact it is those hard decisions that always fall on the leaders, and it is always late at night, alone in their rooms, with a light on, after careful thought, that they have to make them (or not, but its more dramatic that way).

Heh. By this point in my writing Rodimus has pretty much lost his reverence for the thing and is calling it "the Old Prime retirement home." Gonna have to work on that.
