EpochLong are days wondering in darkness
Wandering ignorance, some might
Call it a sojourn: a blind madness.
Until a spark ignites, the idea strikes.
Curiosity, whom the cat dislikes,
Bites off that head vacuous as night
And on realisation, thou shalt impress
One whom is enlightened
The wisdom of your soul so bright.

I appear to be on a bit of a roll with these spontaneous poems. Fourth so far. At this rate I'll have to submit them as deviations in their own right.

Sometimes I wish I could find a new perspective - like a brand new shiny lightbulb - so I could swap it for my chronically depressed and nihilistic brain. But then I wonder: when you are living in a world that is hostile and bleak, grey and inauthentic, might it actually be preferable NOT to see the extent of human depravity? Would it not be better to accept the darkened bulb, scraping tiny eyeholes from the soot that coats the inside glass, to stand still and peer through grimy pessimism at the masses shuffling with their self-delusions in well-illuminated conformity?

Great work, Riftress. You have much talent.Β

I certainly like the aura I'm getting from this art and how its trying to give a message. Reminds me of a certain art style, but I forgot what its called -_- might check it later though XD. Anyways, the art is nice overall!

This is pretty interesting.I like how rough and strong your strokes are. It definitely makes for interesting composition. Nice concept overall, and good call on how you used the colors. Grey for the background, black for the subjects, and white for the lightbulb was a great choice. Keep up all the good work.

People decide to change, to completely renew themselves. After that, they feel completely beautifully, but later, when their enthusiasm burns out, their lives turn black again... until they decide to change once more. It's an endless process. That's what I'm seeing in this drawing.

Haha!Β  Oooh . . . .Β  To me, this one is sorta like taking your old, burnt-out mind and replacing it with a new one.Β  Interestingly, the old mind was a source of darkness for the stickmen -- even those around it, though other people aren't depicted here.Β  This new mind is a source of light by which the stickmen and others can see.Β  This new mind is light in a dark place.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

IllusriArt In reply to Bo-Po-Mo-Fo [2016-07-26 23:17:24 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, this is very similar to what I was thinking when I made this, we think eerily similarly!
I really like your observations on how the old head represents darkness for the stickmans. I'm also glad you like the bg choice, I was experimenting with my desk lamp after I knocked it over in front of the drawing.

paddedpaws [2016-07-26 03:12:35 +0000 UTC]

Interesting work. This leaves some ambiguity over what just happened. It makes me think that this person has let go of an old "burnt out" thought and found a fresh new perspective.

I find that your sketchy style gives quite a bit of personality, even with a lightbulb for a head! I love that.

I have to say that my initial reaction was that I prefer the simple white background of your other pieces to the grey background, because of the stark minimalism of that look. However, I understand the need to put in some darkness in order to show that the light is shining bright.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

IllusriArt In reply to paddedpaws [2016-07-26 23:15:56 +0000 UTC]

Wonderful and well-thought out comment, I love the normal blank white bgs to for these, but I wanted to try something different for this particular piece. Wanted to use a light bulb for a light bulb-themed drawing. Glad you like it, I appreciate the well-written comment, really I do. <3
