*please allow time to load*@_@ Uh oh, tut time.
Well people have been asking me how I do get smooth outlines and how I shade and while I feel that I am actually only an amateur myself (Coming up to a year now ^_^) if people feel I can help then I will certainly try my best too 
This part is the lineart, coming up is the gradient shading tut so expect that as soon as I get it uploaded, sorry for the typos I really suck and even though I checked over it I know I missed a few.
This is full size, if you want it any bigger just complain and I will be forced to put a bigger one up
Would people like the outline to practice with?

when scanning a picture that one wishes to color and do the lineart in photoshop, how would the original paper texture be removed? in your original drawing (which was drawn on paper with a pencil) once you start/finish your lineart how to you get the normal white background and remove the paper underneath? delete the layer? LOL sorry for the messy explaining XD

Hi,
You achieve this by using different layers, so on your picture you would have the original paper picture, and on the next layer the lineart and on a new layer all the colour. Then when you delete the original paper picture layer you are still left with the lineart and colour as it is on a different layer. Hope I have explained this ok!

Hello, random user here. I just wanted to express my thanks for providing such a useful lineart guide. I'm normally a terrible artist; my outlines (I refused to use anything but the Pencil tool in PS) always look jagged, like I was receiving an electric shock while drawing them. I knew that the Pen tool would be useful, but I had no idea how to use it; this guide gave me a crash course on the tool and helped me discover just how much it helps when making outlines. I still need to work on anatomy and shading, but this is a critical first step forward for me. For that, I am extremely grateful.

Hey there, thanks so much for making this tutorial! I actually do my linework very similarly anyways, and am very savvy on the pen tool. One thing I like about yours is the way you use "stimulate pressure" I usually do it the hard way, and do different parts of my linework on different layers and then erase the ends to a point. I would love to try out this method instead because it seems much easier. The only problem is that I have CS4 and no matter how much I right click on the pen tool icon, or what not I couldnt find where it gives the option to set your stroke for the pen tool at all. I usually just click B for brush when I am ready to stroke it and hit enter, and it does it automatically, but not with the "wisp" like line. Any help would be greatly appreciated, just so I can cut down on time when pen tooling. Thanks again so much for making these tutorials!

Hmm, I'll give it a try on GIMP and see what I can do.. hopefully it solves my current problem. I'll get back to you with how it went

I have photoshop elements 8. How do I get the path? I have it in GIMP, but it's horrible.

Help please! Ok I did everything right. (pretty sure) But when I go to "Stroke Path" and click "ok" all that shows are these dots. None of the guide lines are filled. Just the starting dots are filled.
What did I do wrong? I really want to color in my art soo bad.

So I am actually using this tutorial (Im sure I said I was going to try it previously, but now I am actually using it xD.. like at this very moment) and at first I was getting pissed at the pen tool. But now it is my friend.
On the step where you said to use the 1 px brush; apply without pressure, then change it to the 2 px; (Im using a 3 px) apply with pressure.. I have found that (well for me) that its so much quicker than to change back and forth between brush sizes each pen line.. I, instead, make all of my 3 px pressure lines.. then go back over them with the 1 px no pressure line. I just make sure to put my anchor points a couple pixels away from the edge of my 3 px pressure line..
If that made any sense xD It works the same for me.. and its alot less tedious in my opinion lol.

Yeah, I have an early version of Elements, I think all of them lack the pen tool.
This tutorial I found the best for smooth lines, all you need is a tablet for the pressure sensitivity.

The best tip for smooth lines though is to increase the size of your image when you do the lineart, and then shrink it after. This makes rough lines look a lot smoother. ^_^

Lol, what version of photoshop are you using? Some of the older versions don't have it but I know all of the CS versions have.

Yeah, I had an early version of elements and it didn't have it on. I guess they keep it for the full versions
It doesn't really matter though if you don't have the pen tool, I only use it because I have very shaky hands
This is a good tut for nice linearts without the pen tool, but I think you need a tablet for it. [link]

I love the idea behind this tutorial, but when I right click with the pen tool, it won't let me select "Stroke Path" at all. Any ideas why??

Wait, never mind. It started to work for some reason...I guess Photoshop heard me tattle on it!! But I love the tutorial. I have a tablet, but I can only draw at an angle, and if I tilt the tablet it doesn't line up with the screen right...meh. Anyway, great tut!! 5 stars, 2 thumbs up!! And I liked it too. lol
