Lineless meaning it's not cartoon where EVERY SINGLE line is shown. This is a painting that used the hair for example instead of the whole thing. Therefore you can use this technique for other things too, not just hair.

I used to work only in Photoshop, but now I've only been working with SAI for a few weeks and I've been doing a lot of experimentation; thanks for giving me some new techniques to try.

I do, thank you It's much lighter weight and more responsive than Photoshop for most drawing tasks.

It's pretty cool how much magic you can make on just a layer or two. I'm terrible at single-layer painting. xD
Cool tut, thanks for making it! Congrats on the DD! Have a nice day~

I bet this works completely different in PS? I don't use SAI...

Yes blending works a bit differently in PS! in SAI you can choose the brush to make blend colours more easily (similar to blending paint in real life), whereas in PS you have to manually colourpick "in between" colours to blend. When I paint in PS the blending technique is different, but otherwise I use the same method in this tutorial. The actual difference is hard to explain, but you can get a trial version of SAI to try it out ^^ hope that helps~

Hmm, I shall take a look, I also have some friends who use SAI, I shall ask them too.
Also, do you have to buy SAI to get a full version? Or is it free?

There's a (30 day?) free trial, but after that you have buy it for around $60.

And I bet this is basically the same thing in PS. They've both got brush tools that blend, and of course PS would be able to do overlays and stuff. Just mess around in the program and you'll see.

These are very useful tutorials, thanks!
But if it's alright I have a question for you.
We do all know that all artists have different styles of making art, which I say somewhat the same when it comes to 3D Figures and sketching.
Here's my question:
Did you made this only on the original layer (one layer), or did you did this on several layers?
I'm just another artist who's pretty curious on someone else's work.

im-promptu In reply to Shin001 [2013-08-01 05:31:00 +0000 UTC]
You're welcome
As for your question, I used two layers for Part A (one sketch, one colour) and merged them for all of Part B and painted/blended on one layer. For Part C editing I used many adjustment layers to change the colours, etc. Hope that helps
