Description Hi there,

Trying to paint "radiosity-a-like",
I'd like to present my latest artwork: "Mindcage".
It's entirely done with Photoshop 7 using a Wacom Intuos2 A4 board.
No references were used, therefore Illumination is "handmade".
I've used several textures to achieve interesting structures on the surfaces.

A Preillumination painting is shown here: [link]
The Original measures 2000x1500.

I'd be happy about every constructive critics and comments!
Thanks in advance,

Daniel

I spent 2 weeks in Turkey last fall ...the light and shadow in this image really bring back the feeling of an ancient and arid land. For me there is an impression of isolation and lonliness ... for all the light you can"feel" something dark; for such a simple image it really says a lot! Great!

(Of course it could simply be an incredible painting of a room and it is just my imagination taking a stroll but you certainly have provided a wonderful avenue for my little sojourn )

Great work on the textures. My only questions is, where is the shadow of the pot? (It doesn't quite look grounded)

Keep up the good work!

This is really good.. specially all the textures you used and such (the ceiling and floor look completly real) .. but I'm assuming this is some kind of radiosity practice or whatever.. so I'm gonna comment on your radiosity (from what I know/think/think I know). The first thing that caught my eye was the square of light on the wall... and how much brighter it is than the one on the floor.. it also has edges pretty defined (which the floor doesn't have), so I would say tone down brightness on the wall... even if the wall has a different color and reflects more, light... it just seems a little odd, and blur the edges a bit more.. specially upwards. Oh, and cut the light when it reaches the other wall cos if you really wanted a bit of the light square to hit the other wall.. then the upper edge has to be horizontal.. which is not (its a bit inclined).
What else... hmm.... oh, the board on th other wall.. its some kind of hole in the wall, right? ... well, put some light on the left edge and upper edge (here not so much since already has some). And 2 last things... I think the light should reflect right above the window... like this imagine: the light comes in from the window in the angle you hinted... it hits the floor.. it hits the wall really low... then it goes on the front wall above the window........... did you understand that at all? ..I hope so. And the last thing.... add some shadow on the left side of the jar.. like almost black. That's it, again.. it's all my opinion... the truth is I don't know much about these things, so I'm just kinda guessing.

Excellent piece, great work integrating the textures into the pre-illum image, and the illumination is very good. Only the jar seem a little out of place (maybe it's contrast with the more detailed textures), but it's an excellent pic anyway.

Hey there, I like your image a lot. The textures you used are top notch and look great. I must say for using only photoshop I am impressed. The light coming in from the left really draws your eyes then, beams of light send it through the pic to the shine on the wall. The only thing I think needs a little work is the light on the right wall is really intense, it might be nice to take the intensity down a little. Other than that good stuff!!

Nice work! How did you magically apply textures to walls in photoshop?
Is there some kind of a function for it?

Phantastisch!

How you handled the roof and floor detail, comparing your preillumination to post-illumination is awesome. A couple hints would be great..

I wish I had even an inkling of how you made this, but it is amazingly awesome, phenominally fantastic and other alliterating appraisals. Can't think of much else to say except fantastic job. Do you create the textures yourself or are these textures that you found on photoshop and then applied?

There were no reference, no photos envolved!
That should be the clew of it .. I tried to paint radiosity, usually I use this feature in 3D works.

Thanks for your comments!
